Nip+Fab is a brand that aims to eradicate skincare woes, with their extensive collection of face and body ‘fixes’ that claim offer a cutting-edge alternative to surgical treatments; one of their newest releases, the Glycolic Fix range, claims to provide a dramatic facial with the results of a long term peel in just two weeks. As the brainchild of Rodial founder Maria Hatzistefanis, the brand has a lot to live up to; but with each product costing less than £20, can such affordable products really deliver results? I’ve tried out a range of Nip+Fab face fixes to find out whether they match up to their innovative claims.
The Nip+Fab Deep Cleansing Fix (£7.95) is a 6-in-1 cleansing cream that combines sweet almond, grape seed and tea tree oils to nourish the skin and clean the pores. The thick cream has an almost medicinal scent and smoothes easily onto dry skin to remove impurities before being emulsified and rinsed away with warm water, or alternatively used as an exfoliating product with a muslin cloth. It leaves my skin feeling fresh and clean without any dryness as it's so hydrating. It can also be used in a dense layer as intensive 10 minute hydrating mask, or in a thinner layer as an overnight mask - although I would avoid these two uses if you have oily skin, as it left my face feeling a little over-hydrated. I apply a dab of product directly onto blemishes overnight, which I find helps to heal them quickly while avoiding the horrendous dry flaky stage. If you are sensitive to Paraffinum Liquidum (Mineral Oil) however, I would skip this cleanser as it features in high concentration. The tub of cleanser is the biggest I’ve ever seen: at 300ml it’s much larger than many body products I own, so is really long lasting and is brilliant value for money.
While I haven’t noticed much of a difference in fine lines while using the Viper Venom Anti-Ageing Eye Fix roll-on (£14.95), after 2-3 weeks of use I found it definitely helped to smooth the ‘crepe paper’ effect that I experience under my eyes when I smile. The eye gel contains two main active ingredients that have slightly unnecessarily baffling names: Liftonin (a combination of botanical millet seeds and oak ingredients) and Syn-ake (a synthetic peptide that mimics the venom of the Temple Viper), both of which aim to tighten the eye area in a clear hydrating base. This product applies very watery onto the skin so needs to be gently rubbed over the eye contour in order to sink in quickly, but once absorbed doesn’t interfere with makeup. The red algae extract in the gel also helps to soothe my puffy eyes and makes dark circles easier to cover with concealer, as it acts on microcirculation to give the skin a brighter appearance. I like the roll-on application method as it’s gentle around the delicate skin of the eyes, but it did slightly annoy me that the writing rubbed off the packaging so quickly.
The Glycolic Fix Facial Cleanser (£7.99) has an amazing lime citrus smell that is really awakening for early mornings. The translucent gel foams easily with warm water and contains 2% glycolic acid (AHA), apple amino acids and olive oil that freshen and exfoliate the skin. My skin feels much smoother and softer without any irritation, but the cleanser leaves it a little tight so I follow with a slightly thicker moisturiser than usual. This is a great AHA product as it 're-textures' the skin without making it red or sensitive; I would choose it over more expensive products, as I find others that even out the surface of my skin can often be irritating and drying in addition.
The stand out product for me is the Pigmentation Fix Skin Tone Corrector (£15.95), which promises to reduce the appearance of age spots and an uneven skin tone in two weeks. This light yellow serum contains Vitamin C to brighten the complexion, as well as Ilumiscin (a combination of vitamin c, zinc and olive leaf extract) that targets dark marks by preventing the formation of Melanin and Lipofuscin, the two pigments responsible for age spots. One small pump of the airless dispenser produces enough product to cover the face and neck, and it sinks in easily leaving the skin feeling hydrated and prepared for moisturiser. Although I don’t (yet) have any age spots, I suffer with dark marks from healed blemishes and pigmentation across my cheeks. After two weeks of nightly use, my skin definitely looked brighter and clearer, with scars faded and a more even appearance to my complexion. While I haven’t noticed a big difference in stronger areas of pigmentation such as around my nose, this product has done wonders for my cheeks and forehead which are now much more of a uniform colour. This is a must-try product if you struggle with moderate pigmentation or dark marks and is suitable for all skin types.
