Nude eyeshadow has long been the staple of every makeup collection, offering both a base for stronger colours and an understated look that works with a statement lip. I've a lot of love for nude tones and subtle colours on my lids, helping to create an effortless chic result that makes me look like 'I just woke up like this.' Although the Urban Decay palettes have taken over the nude market almost completely, it's about time we started to embrace different brands, textures and formats for a new season. This spring there are loads of new nudes hitting stores, but here are some of my favourites that I know I'll be turning to for some time.

Clarins Cream-to-Powder Iridescent Eyeshadow (£19.00)
These handy singular pots hold the most beautiful shimmering creamy formula that turns instantly to a lightweight powder upon contact with the skin. Once it dries (in nano seconds) the result is an understated glow which doesn't budge; the texture ensures it's perfect for wearing as a base, using to highlight or simply contouring around the eye when worn in conjunction with other colours. I adore the fact there's no flaking from the pan when you work in your finger or a brush, meaning there's no mess and absolutely no wastage. This 'Aquatic Rose' shade is simply stunning and will be a long-term friend throughout the summer months; part of their summer collection, the only downside is that you have to wait until May to get your hands on it.
Topshop Long-Lasting 'Nude Eyes' Cream Eyeshadow (£8.00)
Available in five new shades, these little pots contain beautiful creamy tones that work incredibly well on the lid. If you just want to enhance your natural skintone and even out imperfections, then 'Naked' or 'Stripped' provide a lightweight cream formula that dries to leave a crease-free finish. You can buff this into the lid and use it as a base, or in conjunction with just a flash of mascara; however, if you're after a little more of a statement nude look then 'Bare' is an absolute dream. This slightly irridescent taupe shade can be built-up and used to contour around the eye, working equally well as an eyeliner than as a full on alternative to black or grey eyeshadow. The collection provides a new texture and a new take on nude, which is so much easier for spring than heavy powders.
Rimmel Glam'Eyes HD 5-Colour Eyeshadow (£6.99)
If you want to keep things classic, then this bargain buy (Brixton Brown) could be right up your street. Containing five complementary tones and a couple of great nudes, these pigmented eyeshadows can be layered or used delicately to provide just a wash of colour. The golden tone is more intimidating in the pack than on the lid, providing just a subtle shimmer and tint of something uplifting, while the taupe shade provides a great base colour. I do like the fact that this little palette is affordable and encourages us to play around with colour, rather than sticking to one stock shade - it's a great introduction into nude tones if you're not too sure where to turn or how to create a look. The Scandaleyes eyeshadow crayons are well worth a look to - particularly this delicate bronze shade in 'Bluffing', which works perfectly with a nude base.
