With Mother's Day just around the corner, I've no doubt that many of us are panic buying and wondering what thoughtful gift they can treat their mum to with only a few shopping days left. If you're looking for the ultimate shopping destination with more than a little heart, soul and history, then The Royal Exchange is a great place to start: it's the home of timeless luxury in the heart of The City. Located within a stone's throw of Bank station, The Royal Exchange’s remarkable story is utterly fascinating: officially opened by Queen Elizabeth I in 1571, it suffered not only at the hands of the Great Fire of London in 1666, but a second fire in 1838. A third re-imagining of the building was opened in 1844 by Queen Victoria before all trading stopped in 1972; in 2001 the building was sympathetically reconstructed to reflect the original style, while bringing new boutiques and restaurants to the location. This transformed The Royal Exchange into the leading luxury retail destination it has become today, offering over thirty brands across fashion, interiors and accessories. I took a little tour of this delightful shopping hub to see what beautiful gifts were available ahead of Mother's Day (from shops including Jo Malone, L'Occitane, Penhaligons, Molton Brown and Kiehl's - to name but a few.) With so much to offer it was hard to pick, but here are my top five Mother's Day gift recommendations that I'm sure any mum would be grateful to unwrap.

A brand that has been somewhat under my radar for the last few years, Kiehl's boutique holds some of the most indulgent products your mum could ask for. Thanks to their hand-wrapping service, you can pick whatever products you like and ask for them to be wrapped in the most beautiful way. I chose their Lavender Whipped Body Butter (which is so incredibly lightweight and hydrating, while smelling gorgeous) and bath soak, as well as their Patchouli Rose fragrance which is simultaneously comforting and uplifting. To keep mum's skin looking tip top, I also chose a bottle of the cult classic Midnight Recovery Oil which helps to hydrate and add radiance, as well as a little tub of Rosa Arctica Eye Balm to help tighten, refine, soothe and hydrate tired eyes. Finally, we added a bottle of Kiehl's newest addition: Precision Lifting and Pore-Tightening Concentrate. This visibly tightens and reduces the appearance of pores (which tend to increase in size as we age,) helps skin to feel firmer and facial contours look more defined; it's like a facial in a bottle. All this was wrapped beautifully absolutely free of charge, with a few free samples for me to try too... What more could you ask for?
2. Penhaligons 'Ostara' Fragrance (£110.00)
Ostara is the goddess of spring and awakening, so what better name to give this beautiful spring scent? Perfectly timed for Mother's Day, this is the newest incarnation of the historical Penhaligons brand; inspired by the daffodil, the fragrance is a modern interpretation of this delicate flower that really does provide the scent of spring. Ostara opens with notes of Juniper, Violet Leaf and Spearmint, layered against vibrant notes of Blackcurrant and Clementine; Hyacinth, Hawthorn, and Cyclamen are given depth by the warmth of beeswax, settling into a base of Vanilla, Amber and White Wood. The Penhaligons store is well worth a visit, as you're instantly transported back in time to a Victorian apothecary; you can't help but discover all the fragrances they have on offer and listen to the stories behind them. With everything from tea-scented candles, to mini vials of scent and classic fragrances, you're sure to find something for mum to treasure.

3. Molton Brown Hand and Body Treats (From £10.00)
The newest scent from this iconic British brand has been inspired by the orient: Honeysuckle and White Tea is a truly sensual fragrance that captures the timeless innocence of white florals with the rare elegance of white tea. The lilac tone also makes this a great treat for mum and a way in which to inject some indulgence into her morning shower; available in a shower lotion, body cream, hand cream and eau de toilette, she can build the fragrance up to leave her feeling uplifted. Rhubarb and Rose is also a great alternative scent if your mum likes something a little sweeter, while Pink Pepperpod is a classic fragrance for a reason: it combines firey ginger and pepper with notes of patchouli. Molton Brown offer various incarnations of their scents for all budgets, all wrapped beautifully in lilac boxes; if you're rushed for time you can definitely swing by and grab a few treats that can be treasured - while making it look like you've mulled over your decision for hours!

4. Jo Malone Red Roses Bath Oil (£40.00)
One of the most indulgent and aspirational brands, Jo Malone has a huge range of scents to offer the most important woman in your life. Although Lime, Basil & Mandarin is a classic, Pomegranate Noir is incredibly popular, it's Red Roses for me that makes the ultimate treat for mum. With notes of zesty lemon and honeycomb combined with heart notes of the red rose, the result is an indulgent scent that is perfect to surround yourself in while soaking in a warm bath. Give her the gift of some 'me time' packaged in a beautiful bottle that she'll be proud to display on her bathroom shelf. If bath oil isn't her thing, then there's a huge range of gifting options and pre-made boxes that include fragrances, bath oils, candles, diffusers and more. You can't go into a Jo Malone store without wanting to buy it all - and their wonderful sales staff are somewhat enabling!

5. L'Occitane Almond Collection (£42.00)
With a saving of £13.00 off the usual RRP, this gift set not only provides great value but an incredible array of gifts for mum to enjoy. I adore the sweet nutty scent of almond and these products bring that delicious note in the form of soap, hand cream, milk concentrate and shower oil to ensure you step out of the shower looking and feeling refreshed. L'Occitane offer such great value on their gift sets that it's hard to resist the temptation of picking up one for yourself too! If almond isn't quite your cup of tea, then there's equal value to be had in a Divine collection of skincare products (the best selling range) or even a mini fragrance collection that screams 'collectable'. As a little extra treat, why not pick up a few of their Ultra Soft Balm tins that have been launched to celebrate International Women's Day and will only set you back £4.00; the sweet apricot scent is delicious, while the lightweight balm can be used to soothe lips or treat dry areas of the skin. The majority of their special gifts are only available in-store, giving you the perfect excuse to swing by and see what delightful treats you can pick out.
