Did you know that the fastest growing category within skincare is the electrical gadget market? It seems our fascination with technology extends past our smartphones and tablets and into our bathrooms; there's so much a great gadget can offer our skin, so why stop at the latest iPhone? Remington are taking their first step into this growing arena with the launch of their 'Reveal' facial cleansing brush; designed to work with all skin types and not to aggravate sensitive skin or irritate skin conditions, the results are ten times better than can be achieved with manual cleansing. It contains a much smaller brush than other products currently available, ensuring you can get to every corner of the face to provide an unbeatable cleanse.

The Remington 'Reveal' is lightweight, sleek, easy to use and has been designed to enhance the performance of your cleanser rather than exfoliate away the goodness of your skin. Used once a day, or around five times a week, it helps to lift away impurities and provide a thoroughly deep cleanse to ensure skin looks brighter and feels fresher. Containing three brush heads (normal, sensitive and massage) as well as three speed settings, the beauty is in the control this provides; many of the other cleansing brushes I've used have been pushed to one side after only a few uses, but this provides a pleasurable experience I'm happy to repeat multiple times a week.

The unit is shower proof, meaning you can use it while your conditioner is soaking in, removing the need for yet another time demand during your morning routine; the device is set to run in only sixty-second bursts (the head changing its rotation direction three times during that sixty second period) so you don't have to worry about setting aside a huge amount of time to get the best out of it. It's incredibly gentle and much more pleasurable to use than other cleansing brushes I've tried previously, helping to lift away hidden dirt and dead skin cells to reveal smoother and clearer skin underneath. After testing it over the course of a few weeks I can definitely feel the difference; my skin is smoother, clearer, blemish free and feels fabulous.

I regularly use exfoliators, face masks, muslin cloths and gentle natural overnight peels, but this still makes a difference to my routine and the feeling of my skin. Even my boyfriend has got in on the act and regularly uses the Reveal to cleanse away a busy day in the workshop or a build-up of dry skin; even with his eczema he finds it pleasurable to use and leaves his skin feeling softer and smoother. Before I started using the cleansing brush I spent some time grilling Remington skincare expert Dr Barbara Kubicka about the best way to use the 'Reveal' and what it meant for women (and men) across the UK. Here are some snippets of her advice on using this innovative gadget:

How do I use the Reveal Cleansing Brush?
The easiest way to integrate it into your routine is to use daily while in the shower, but you could also use it in the evenings to remove makeup thoroughly. It only takes sixty seconds to complete the cycle. However, it's not recommended to use it any more than once a day (fewer if you feel like your skin is feeling a little tender) as you're likely to hurt yourself; this should provide an enjoyable moment of indulgence, not hard work.

What products should I use it with?
You can use your regular cleanser or face wash, but the brush works particularly well with gentle foaming products. You can also use it once or twice a week with a gentle exfoliator and the massage head, giving your skin an extra boost. I personally don't find it works as well with balms or creamy products, but the brilliance is that you can play around and find what works for you.

Can I use it if I have sensitive skin or acne?
There's a 'sensitive' brush head included in the pack, meaning you can get a super gentle result when used on the lowest speed function. You can use it if you suffer from acne to help thoroughly cleanse the skin, but it's not recommended it's used on inflamed acne or open sores - it will only spread bacteria and irritate skin.

What's the main difference between this and my current cleansing brush?
The Remington 'Reveal' is much softer, lighter and gentler on skin. It only works in sixty second bursts, preventing over-use or too much exfoliation of the skin which can cause problems of it's own. The three head and three speed settings provide personalisation and control, while the design is sleek and lightweight to use.

How do I clean the brush heads?
Simply remove them by pulling from the side and cleanse thoroughly with warm water; if there's a build-up of dirt, then add a little shampoo and work into the palm of your hand. It's really important to thoroughly cleanse the heads at least once a week (obviously rinse of gently after every use) to ensure you're getting the best result - and not cleansing grime back into your skin!

I've heard cleansing brushes have a bad rep; why is that?
A lot of the other cleansing brushes were far too harsh for skin, so the result was unsustainable. If you exfoliate too much and remove too much moisture from the surface of skin, then it reacts by slowing down its own lubrication; the result of this is ageing and possibly irritation. Furthermore, dead skin on the surface can become thicker if skin is not cleansed thoroughly - this can cause breakouts, imperfections and pigmentation issues. Technology has advanced hugely and so the results achievable are so much better in 2015.

The Remington 'Reveal' cleansing brush is really a great bit of kit that I've genuinely enjoyed using. It's quick, simple, effective and sits nicely in my bathroom ready for a daily cleanse. At £79.99 it's not an impulse purchase, but if you're concerned about effective cleansing then this could definitely be a wise investment. To celebrate the launch of this new innovation from Remington, they've given me a Reveal Cleansing Brush to give away to one lucky reader - all you have to do is enter the competition via the widget below and we can have your skin looking and feeling fabulous in only a few weeks!
