The Three Cleansers That Are Currently On My Bathroom Shelf

One of the most satisfying parts of my day is standing in the bathroom, pumping myself a handful of cleanser and massaging it all over my face. There's something quite cathartic about washing away the day's build-up, removing the film of makeup and residue from the surface of your skin to reveal the squishy and clean-feeling stuff underneath. Although you may think a good cleanser is easy to come by, many of them just aren't as hard wearing or effective as I need them to be - while still offering a gentle and comfortable cleanse. So many still leave a huge amount of grime on my face that requires triple-cleansing, while others just won't budge my stubborn mascara; many cleansers strip the skin of goodness and leave it feeling tight, or simply are full of nasty ingredients that won't help your complexion glow any time soon. It's for this reason that a place on my bathroom shelf is somewhat of an award in itself; only the true greats stick around for longer than a couple of days. These three are my current favourites and will be staying put until the very last drop.... And here's why.

1. Antonia Burrell Natural Glow Cleansing Oil (From £29.50)
Made from 100% pure plant extracts, this is my cleansing best friend. Infused with the natural astringent cypress, bitter orange, tea tree to purify the skin, lavender to calm irritation, lemon to brighten fatigued skin and castor seed to offer anti-inflammatory and healing qualities, this is a one-stop shop for fabulous skin. The very lightweight and non-greasy oil smells divine and applies to skin like a dream, removing every single speck of dirt or grime without stripping the skin of goodness; if anything, my face feels hydrated and comforted. The bottle lasts an absolute age too, meaning it's a fabulous investment that you won't regret splurging on.

2. Willow Organic Beauty Gentle Cleansing Balm (£38.00)
This gentle and nourishing cleansing balm features barbary fig, the cooling and healing properties of comfrey and anti-inflammatory marigold to deeply cleanse and purify the skin. It's 100% organic and turns into a luxurious milk when mixed with a touch of water. It's easy to use, light to the touch and a pleasure to massage around the face; it doesn't dry the skin, but offers an injection of goodness. The only downside to this is that it's not a fan of mascara, leaving quite a lot of product on lashes - I do have to remove all traces with a bi-phase remover post-cleanse, meaning I leave this for 'no makeup' days or when I've only applied a touch.

3. L'Occitane 5% Shea Cleansing Oil (£17.00)
Enriched with nourishing shea oil, this silky oil transforms into a soft emulsion when mixed with water to preserve skin's natural hydration. It effectively removes all traces of make-up and impurities to leave skin feeling smoothed and refreshed; even stubborn mascara is washed away in the blink of an eye to reveal effectively cleansed skin beneath. I have noticed that this does cause my skin to feel a little more 'tight' than the others and when used for longer periods of time has caused small dry patches, but when followed by a nourishing formula it's a great addition to my repertoire. However, the price point alone is enough to make this a great buy!
