Beauty boxes had their moment a few years ago, when we were all overwhelmed by the introduction of a new concept that delivered makeup and skincare directly to our door. However, as with anything, as fast as they grew in popularity they quickly went out of favour; dissatisfaction left a bitter taste in many mouths and subscriptions were cancelled across the country. Beauty boxes got a bad name and it became incredibly difficult to shift them month-on-month without the promise of incredible value or something rather special... That was until My Little Box landed in the UK and shook everything up once again. I was introduced to this new take on a subscription box over a year ago, after meeting some of the Parisian team in a central London hotel; instantly I knew there was something exciting and different about their concept. Since it's launch, My Little Box has been growing in popularity thanks to the sheer brilliance of what they put inside - this is no normal 'beauty box', but a box full of things to be treasured and enjoyed.
Every single month I rip open the MLB delivery with joy, waiting to see what fabulous gifts and product samples await me inside. For someone that receives hundreds of products every single month, it's a testimony in itself that this little subscription box still makes me giddy. Here are the reasons I feel that My Little Box are knocking it out of the park continually, overshadowing all other competitors indefinitely, and why you need to get yourself a box right this moment.
Their Themes Are Blooming Brilliant
Unlike other boxes that are often filled with yet another sample of Laura Mercier primer (I swear they've been in every kind of box, calendar or goodie bag for a year) or tat beauty companies are trying to shift from their warehouse, My Little Box underpins every month with a theme. This not only ties the products together and ensures there's some consistency, but helps the little bits and bobs to be treasured even more. Some of my favourites have included the Parisienne box, Energy box (fab for January) and their perfectly paired partnership with fellow blogger Fleur de Force.
The Create Their Own Products
The beauty of this beauty box (ahem) is the fact it contains products developed specifically for the My Little Box family. From body moisturisers and highlighters, to lipsticks and eyeliners, you feel like you're getting something special that you can't buy anywhere else. The only downside is that if you love it it's near enough impossible to get a replacement - although in Paris I do believe you can buy these online. (Here's hoping this changes in 2015!)
Functional Tat
I love a bit of tat as much as the next person, but after a couple of weeks it inevitably ends up shoved in a drawer - or worse, in the bin. My Little Box have got a knack at developing bits and pieces that are fun, but also really useful; from the little notebooks that sit on my desk with pleasure, to phone covers and neck scarves, with gym bags and laptop cases thrown in for good measure. I love the little glass tub of inspirational messages with the latest box (pictured) which proudly sits on my desk and offers up a bit of French whenever I need a mid-afternoon boost.
Illustrations & Inspiration
No other brand or subscription services offers the pure attention to detail of My Little Box. Their boxes, products, magazine and additional posters are all illustrated by an incredible team of in-house artists that have really developed an instantly recogniseable style. They make everything utterly lust-worthy and even a leaflet showcasing a new lipstick as something to be treasured. I adore everything they create and know the box has been put together with love and passion - rather than within logistical limits and financial obligations.
Value For Money & Affordability
At £11.00 per month (plus £3.95 P&P) each box is an affordable treat - or a great gift. Unlike other boxes, where you pay a tenner for a box full of sachets, My Little Box offers great value. One product alone is often worth more than the box price, with a magazine and unique treats thrown in for good measure. I'm not quite sure how MLB manage to get the price down to such a low amount, but I'm pleased they have done as it makes it even easier to recommend; so many of my mates have now signed up to their service and look forward to their monthly gifts as much as I do.
Are you a fan of My Little Box? Have you signed up to the service, or are you tempted to do so?
