Never a truer saying was there than "you don't know what you've got until it's gone." Some months ago I was the lucky recipient of a fancy pants toothbrush that I aptly named 'the Apple of teeth cleaning'. The Philips Sonicare DiamondClean looks and feels like something totally new, taking the traditional electric toothbrush and turning it completely on its head. If there was a gold plated, sports car equivalent in the world of toothbrushes, then this would most certainly be it. It doesn't just look great, but the DiamondClean provides an oral experience to leave you almost speechless - partnered with the most technological advanced system available on the high street today. Unfortunately my pride and joy of the bathroom suddenly stopped working, so I was forced to revert back to an old Oral B that had been lingering at the back of a drawer. The first few days were horrendous, my mouth feeling dirty and the two minute clean leaving my teeth feeling battered; I didn't realise how much I loved my Philips Sonicare DiamondClean until it was gone...
Now I have a super cute pink replacement just in time for Christmas (yipee,) I can once again revel in the lightweight yet thorough experience this amazing piece of tech provides. The brush unit itself is exceptionally light and easy to use, while the built-in mode lights add a touch of modernity to something that could've been designed purely for functionality. Available with two brush heads and five modes (including: clean, whitening, polish, gum care and sensitive,) you can find the most convenient combination for you and your needs. Unlike most electric toothbrushes which operate using a circular motion, the Sonicare Diamond Clean uses oscillating motions to polish teeth and remove up to seven times more plaque than a manual toothbrush.
Like many electric toothbrushes, the Sonicare DiamondClean also includes a subtle notification after every thirty seconds to encourage you to move on to the next area of the mouth - I find this extremely helpful in knowing how long I've been brushing and how long to spend on each area without overdoing it. I've got very sensitive teeth and frequently find myself wincing when I hit a tender part of my mouth; however, I've found this doesn't aggravate or catch a sensitive area at all. The standard mode is still light enough for sensitive teeth, but the 'gum care' and 'sensitive' modes slow the oscillations slightly to ensure a more comfortable experience. If you want added whitening or additional polishing, you can change the modes to ensure a lengthier clean of your more visible gnashers.
I knew during the first use that I loved this toothbrush, but I didn't realise how much of a pleasure it was to use until I had to revert back to something I'd previously been incredibly pleased with. My old Oral B felt heavy, clunky, harsh and somewhat damaging to the delicate areas of my mouth - the complete opposite of my experience with the Sonicare DiamondClean. Although it does come with a hefty price tag (£249.99,) it's definitely worth investing in a tool that will keep your teeth looking and feeling amazing for years to come. If you'd consider spending that amount on a pair of shoes, a new Playstation or a designer bag, then it's definitely worth redirecting some funds or putting a new toothbrush on your Christmas list.
