Rarely does a makeup collection leave me speechless, but upon unwrapping Bobbi Brown's Christmas offering I was definitely a little lost for words. Inspired by vintage makeup collections and dusty brown textures, there's something a little bit 'Mad Men' about the appropriately named 'Scotch on the Rocks' collection. Including an incredible eyeshadow palette that's almost too good to use, a delicious highlighter that's perfect for the party season, and a collection of lip and nail colours that will add a touch of vintage sparkle, this is definitely a portfolio worth splashing out on. Frequently I feel the Bobbi Brown seasonal collections are overpriced and don't contain shades that are worth investing in, but this is everything a makeup addict could dream of and more.
The Warm Glow Eye Palette (£59.00) is packaged like a vintage cigerette case, adding a touch of elegance to any clutch this festive season. It contains nine thoroughly wearable and blendable shades that will be the base of any look well into the new year, as well as the addition of a super dark chalky grey that doubles up as an eyeliner when used wet. Although it's pretty pricey, it's definitely something that would be treasured if Santa was kind enough to leave one in your stocking come the 25th. Similarly, the Highlight Powder (£34.00) is great at adding a touch of subtle shimmer to the cheekbones and creating the illusion of a super healthy complexion - even when it's the middle of winter. Bobbi Brown produce some of the best and most beautiful highlighters on the market, so this little beauty is definitely worth an investment if you're on the lookout.
To finish of the party look Bobbi Brown have also given their usual black lipsticks (£22.00) a golden makeover, offering a statement and classic red that will suit all complexions as well as a few shades with added shimmer. I'm always a little dubious about lipsticks with shimmer in them, as they tend to dry lips and leave a gritty residue, but the colours are beautiful and make a great alternative to the usual nudes. Similarly, the lipglosses (£18.50) contain golden shimmering tones to help catch the light and bring the entire look together; they may wash out some complexions (the colour featured below is too pale for me personally,) but they would look awesome with a winter tan.
I have nothing but great things to say about this collection. Bobbi Brown have pulled out all the stops and created something that not only appeals to my inner magpie, but channels the elegance and passion of a bygone era. I love that they've taken a slightly different approach to Christmas, rebuffing the sparkly grey shades and jewel tones that are so common, while ensuring any purchase will still be useable well into 2015 and beyond. Although the brand's price point is pricey, what you get with Bobbi Brown is great quality and incredible pigment that really works with your skin. All of their cosmetics should be treasured and used with passion, so it's great to see such an incredible collection that's clearly been put together with love.
