Three Great Sulphate-Free Shampoo & Conditioners For Healthy Hair

The trend for sulphate-free shampoos isn't going anywhere, with more and more brands ditching the foaming ingredients in favour of a gentler alternative. Many try to stay away from them as much as possible, as the detergents (also used in washing-up liquid and laundry powder) can be incredibly irritating for sensitive scalps. Sulphates are also hugely stripping on the hair, removing not only the grease and dirt we'd like to be rid of, but the goodness and natural oils that help to leave hair looking and feeling healthy. As someone that's just had hair extensions fitted, one of the main recommendations is to use sulphate-free shampoos and conditioners to maintain the quality of the hair and to prevent them becoming dry, brittle and dull. Although there are loads of suitable shampoos available, these three have been my personal favourites over the last few weeks - all providing a subtle lather, beautiful scent and silky smooth feeling.

1. Moroccan Oil Moisture Repair Shampoo & Conditioner (£16.55 & £17.25)
This shampoo gently cleanses hair while infusing it with a combination of nutrients - including argan oil, keratin, fatty acids and proteins. Free of sulfates, phosphates and parabens (and safe for colour treated hair) the shampoo provides a great alternative to the silicone and sulphate heavy high street buys. It helps to leave hair feeling squeaky clean, while the conditioner adds a soft finish and nourishment. Both products smell incredible and work exceptionally well on hair that's dry, coarse or frizzy - the inclusion of argan oil helps to tame down unruliness before you've even got out of the shower. A great all-round duo of goodness.

2. Rahua Rainforest Grown Shampoo & Conditioner (£27.00 & £28.00)
This completely natural formula helps to create subtle body and bounce, while still taming and detangling unruly hair. It's formulated with 100% natural ingredients, as well as an aromatheraputic blend of Lavender and Eucalyptus to calm and relax the senses; it really is an experience that uplifts first thing in the morning. It gently cleanses the hair, providing a subtle foam that doesn't strip hair or leave it feeling dry. Omega-9 Ungurahua Oil helps to heal, moisturise and restore hair follicles so hair is stronger and healthier, whilst Citrus Juices break down hair oils to extend the time needed between washes - always a bonus - whilst Jojoba Oil moisturises and nourishes the hair. This is a beautifully scented concoction that's a complete pleasure to use, although the fragrance is not for the fainthearted.

3. Liz Earle Botanical Shine Shampoo & Conditioner  (£8.75 each)
This was one of the first shampoo and conditioners to really make me consider permanently switching to sulphate-free, when it was launched a couple of years ago. Formulated with West African shea butter, naturally sourced Vitamin E, shine-boosting apple and orange extracts plus naturally derived cleansers, this unsurprisingly smells amazing and works wonders. It leaves hair feeling clean and shiny without being or stripped of goodness, while the rich and creamy conditioner leaves hair feeling smooth and silky. The price point is incredible considering the quality of the formula, so this duo is a great introduction to sulphate-free alternatives.

Do you try to use sulphate-free hair products? Have you tried any of these three yourself?
