Full, thick, glossy and flowing hair is traditionally associated with both beauty and health. How many times have Kate Middleton and Kim Kardashian been praised for their free-flowing manes, with every magazine going attempting to provide tips on achieving the same look? I've always struggled with my hair, it being not only incredibly fine and full of 'baby' hair that doesn't seem to grow past two inches, but both curly and coarse when left to its own devices. I've straightened it and styled it for as long as I've been able to get my hands on suitable electrical styling tools, investing in dying it ridiculous colours to make it look as interesting as possible. After dabbling in hair extensions eighteen months ago, I decided to take the plunge and start a hair journey with Kapello that was more long-term - rather than seeing extensions as a temporary fix for an incredibly busy wedding season. (The main motivation last time!) Kapello Hair offer pre-taped extensions that provide an alternative to the incredibly costly, time consuming and delicate nature that I experienced before... Without compromising on performance, quality or expertise.

Kapello's innovative pre-tape technology delivers comfort, flexibility and serious staying power. The method is semi-permanent and incredibly quick to apply, the process taking place in a salon and applied by an extension specialist. I had sixty indivudal tapes added to my hair by the experts in Errol Douglas, all of which were applied within about 45 minutes - seven hours less than my previous experience! The tape hair extension is approximately an inch in width, being cut in half for smaller areas, and sandwiched on either side of a small amount of natural hair; a tape is applied underneath a section of hair, with another place over the top to lock it in place and ensure it blends seamlessly. The tapes are incredibly strong, but they still feel incredibly comfortable (practically indictable) and won't damage your natural hair - they can be removed in-salon using a special formula that melts away the glue and has no impact on individual hair strands. Because the extension is attached over a larger surface area than traditional extensions (which grab onto a very small section of hair and pull at the root,) there's no discomfort and no limit to how many times you can have them applied.
Available in a multitude of colours and lengths, the extensions make the whole process quick and easy: there's no longer the need to book a whole day of work and sit in the hairdresser's chair for seven hours while they individually bond hairs to your head. With Kapello, as long as they have a matching shade to your hair, you can be in and out within an hour or two. My experience was prolonged because of a colour matching issue, but you can be safe in the knowledge that the extensions can actually be died to match your hair if there isn't a perfect colour. The amazing team at Errol Douglas removed all traces of red, created a dark brown that perfectly suited my complexion and even dyed the individual extensions to ensure a seamless result. Compared to my previous experience, the Kapello extensions are an absolute breeze. They're incredibly light, lay flat against your head (unlike bonded extensions which feel like lots of little hair bobbles on your scalp) and can be styled without giving the game away; the tapes are transparent so you can't even detect them unless you're having a rummage. I'm incredibly happy with the finished result and the way my hair feels. Although I loved my previous extensions, they were heavy and practically unmanageable - these make maintenance much easier and ensure a natural finish.
If you're considering hair extensions, be it to add length or volume, then Kapello are a great step forward. They require less initial investment (costing approximately £500 for a full set and application, vs £1500 for my previous full head of bonds,) and are much easier to get used to - the tapes lay flat on your scalp so you can still run your fingers through your hair and style the lengths in whichever way you please. Because the hair is bonded using strips of tapes sandwiched together, there's also a lot less fall-out than traditional extensions (which have a tendency to malt so much you lose half the hair within two months.) Although I've got sixty individual bonds and a serious amount of length, my objective is to grow my hair out underneath and gradually reduce the dependance upon the extensions - adding a handful in here and there for volume is something I'd love to do eventually, but for the time-being the tapes are helping me grow out that awkward shoulder-length situation that I find so incredibly frustrating. I would thoroughly recommend Kapello extensions to anyone for any purpose, especially those of you wanting to take your first steps into the world of bonded hair. I'll be returning to the salon every 2-3 months for maintenance and can definitely see myself keeping this up for the foreseeable future; although it's a significant investment, it's an investment I can see boosting my confidence in the long-term.

My Kapello extensions were applied free of charge at Errol Douglas in Knightsbridge, with both my hair and the extensions being dyed a darker shade of brown to ensure a perfect match. The initial application for sixty tapes costs in the region of £500, with maintenance costing approx £350 every few months - excluding any hair colour. The tapes will last for approximately a year before they need to be completely replaced. Although the initial application was free of charge for the purpose of review, any further appointments will be paid from my own pocket!
