NEW Rimmel Provocalips: An Affordable Liquid Lipstick That Never Wears Off

Two step lipsticks are nothing new (I bought my first Max Factor one about fifteen years ago and thought it was the height of glamour,) but they've always provided an incredibly drying and uncomfortable experience. The initial payoff may have been great, but the longevity was poor and the tightness left me overlooking them in favour of something a little more hydrating. When these new Provocalips liquid lipsticks landed on my desk I was incredibly dubious, presuming they'd provide a drying experience that lasted no longer than my usual lipstick - but how wrong I was. These may be the best lip product I've seen in years, providing a comfortable feeling and an incredible colour that literally never wears off. (Plus they're only £6.99 each!)

Rimmel claims that Provocalips provides a 'kiss-proof, food-proof and transfer-proof' pout - and surprisingly it really does. I excitedly applied one of the dark red shades to my lips in experimentation, just to understand the colour result and finish, but eight hours later it was still perfectly in place. It withheld coffee cups, dinner time, boyfriend smooching and everything in-between, with no transference whatsoever; my boyfriend usually hates me wearing lipstick because it ends up all over him, but this has his definite stamp of approval because it's 100% kiss-proof. The colour stayed on my lips, and only my lips.

Available in six shades, Rimmel's Provocalips finally provides a solution to colour lovers that hate their lipstick transferring to glasses and Starbucks cups throughout the day. I adore colour, but I inevitably find myself re-applying about fifteen times a day because it ends up everywhere but my pout. This formula is incredibly comfortable, especially after the transparent gloss is applied on the end, and doesn't need touching up at all - in fact, you can only get it off with a makeup remover or cleansing balm at the end of the day.

The trick to achieving the perfect pout is to use the applicator to precisely outline your lips, filling in the rest gradually with thin strokes. Building up the colour gradually helps it to dry and ensure a perfect finish, which is essential for it to look great for the sixteen hours promised - if you try to drink a cup of tea or kiss your man before it's 100% dry you could get a little transference and a patchy finish. The formula isn't drying, although I do like to add a touch of lip balm over the top to lubricate my lips and ensure they're looking glossy, meaning you can also wear it every day without worrying about the state of your pout.

Although these don't launch for another three weeks, they're the perfect product to highlight during my #BudgetBeautyWeek - they deliver strong colour, they're fun, they're long-lasting and most importantly they're affordable. At £6.99 they really are an absolute steal. What do you think of the latest addition to Rimmel's beauty line up?

Rimmel's new Provocalips Liquid Lip Colour is available in eight shades, prices £6.99, and launches nationwide on 1st October. (It's totally worth the wait.)
