If there's one product I rely on to keep my makeup in place all day, then it's a primer. They're a makeup artist's secret weapon, the key to achieving a flawless complexion and the way you can stop that horrendous '4pm slip'. Although I didn't discover the benefit until starting to write this blog, for the last four years there's never been one far from my side. Some of my favourites include Bare Minerals and Benefit, but there are also some incredible budget buys that do just a good a job but will cost you half the price. Here are three fab primers that are worth picking up pre-payday.

1. Elf Mineral Face Primer (£6.95)
Hailing from one of the brands I used to love back in the early days of blogging, Elf's transparent primer is a more affordable version of the Bare Minerals 'Prime Time' I love so much. Developed to combat against excess oil, flaky dryness, enlarged pores and fine lines, this multipurpose primer helps to prepare skin so makeup goes on evenly for a long lasting satin finish. It literally glides over skin and really does keep my foundation in place all day long.
2. Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser (£7.99)
Great for those of us a little conscious about enlarged pores, this little tube contains a clear gel formula that pretty much eradicates any visible sign. It definitely blurs imperfections and tones down discolouration, creating a more uniform base while simultaneously helping to keep makeup in place for longer. This works even for the most oily or runny of base products, helping to lock everything where you want it to be so you can simply get on with your day.
3. Max Factor FaceFinity Primer (£7.99)
Although I'm slightly cheating here as this is technically £10.99 and therefore 99p over my £10 budget this week, it's currently on offer in Boots and Superdrug so well worth mentioning. It's much more lightweight to the touch than the other two, being more of a cream than a gel. If primers are new to you then this is definitely a great introductory product, helping to create a silky base that aids the application of foundation.
