New York is one of the most iconic cities in the world, bringing together an unparalleled diversity of the human form with one singular passion: life. It's the city that never sleeps, the city of dreams and the city artists and creatives flock to in order to live out their aspirations. DKNY has a love story with the city, using it as inspiration for their ever expanding collection of products - especially fragrances. The original DKNY Be Delicious has a firm place within my heart (read my story here,) as does New York itself; it's where I head to when I'm facing change in my life, or need a little focus, as it clears my mind and reminds me that anything is possible. DKNY are expanding their fragrance repertoire with a new addition that celebrates everything about the city that makes it so unique; 'MYNY' is a scent that celebrates the relationship everybody has with the streets of New York - whether or not that's a memory, a present day experience, a dream or even a movie.
New York is a constant source of information and the creative forces behind DKNY never cease to be amazed with what comes out of the city. They told me: "You hear many different languages and see many different faces... Not everyone is from NYC. People come from many different countries because they believe that the city will allow them to become what they want, the person they want to be." We all bring a little part of ourselves into the city to make it our own and the 'MYNY' fragrance brings that relationship and passion to life. It's all about our own stories of New York and our own passions, reflected in the vibrancy of the fragrance that changes on every individual skin to be something different and unique.
The main ingredient in the fragrance is Patchouli, a comforting and uplifting scent which sums up the city completely; it's sold on street corners and used by artists in their studios, so it provides a clear association with everyday NYC life. It also contains Freesia, Jasmine and Raspberry - the scent of optimism - and a little Pink Pepper to 'provide sparkle'. There's something for everyone within the fragrance, as it smells completely different on every person. Some may smell more of the woody notes, others pick up more of the uplifting elements and others find it changes as the day progresses; this isn't a static and simple scent. It's definitely the best DKNY fragrance since their original 'Be Delicious' and may even replace it on my list of 'must haves'. I adore it.
Having developed this fabulous new fragrance, DKNY wanted to kick-start a conversation about the city with the people of the city - using their new fragrance as inspiration. They felt that singer and entertainer Rita Ora was the person that understood the story, having a close and fundemental relationship with New York herself. (She had to come to NYC to realise her dream of being a singer and signed her first record deal in NYC, as well as getting her first tattoo in the city!) It's for this reason that Rita Ora is the 'face' of this new fragrance and will be appearing in all of the advertising supporting the launch. I was lucky enough to meet Rita and talk about her love for scent, her love for the city and her love of this new fragrance... I'll be bringing you my interview ASAP!
In the meantime, have a look at the gorgeous bottle that houses this incredible scent. Not only is it heart-shaped (but very subtly so - you only realise when looking down from a 'bird's eye' view,) but it has a representation of the New York skyline on the top. It's complex, simple, elegant and modern all at the same time and will look utterly fabulous on your dressing table. I'm constantly exposed to scents and beautiful bottle designs, but this is the first one I've got truly excited about in some time; although it's not launched until August it's one to put on your lust list and get ready for when it lands into stores this summer. What do you think of this new fragrance from DKNY?
Stay tuned for my interview with Rita Ora soon!
The 'MyNy' fragrance will launch in August, exclusive to Debenhams. More details soon. Image may be NSFW.
