Makeup is about having fun, being creative, testing new ideas and pushing your own boundaries. We're not all in a financial position to be filling our collections with expensive high-end brands, which is why I'm a huge fan of budget buys and affordable products that can really keep makeup accessible for all. Makeup Revolution are the newest brand on the block, offering good quality products that cost less than your morning coffee. Filled to the brim with colour and texture, their website offers everything from foundation and blusher, to eyeshadow and nail varnish, with a touch of lipstick and highlighter to boot. When a new brand launches and it's all so cheap, it's hard to see the wood for the trees and take note of where you should really be placing your bets - so I've put the products to the test and have narrowed down three that would be a great addition to any makeup collection... As well as those you should avoid.
1. Eyeshadow Palettes (£4.00)
Considering these are only £4.00 you get a lot of product for your pennies. Each palette contains twelve different shades, with my particular favourite being this nude palette that's a great dupe for Urban Decay's Naked. The eyeshadows are exceptionally pigmented and provide a mostly delicate metallic shimmer finish, which looks great when you blend and buff them into the skin. If you buy one product from Makeup Revolution, make it this.
2. Blush Lacquer (£3.00)
I've recently got really into cream and liquid blushers, so this instantly got me excited. The product is dispensed from a pump and provides a rich creamy blush that can be dabbed and blended into skin. It provides a fab subtle finish that looks extremely natural and perfect for the upcoming spring days. Not only is it comparable to other premium brands I've tried, but it's available in six different shades so you can get the perfect one for you.
3. Baked Highlighter (£3.00)
Highlighters are so on-trend right now, helping us to achieve a dewy and natural glow that oozes health. This unusual lilac shade of shimmer is great for catching the light and applying to cheekbones, as well as being applied under the brow arch to help lift the eyes. It's extremely pigmented and very shimmery, so you do have to use it sparingly, but it's a fab way to add a touch of light to the skin.
The range also contains lots of single eyeshadows which are handy for base colours (as well as flouro shades that are great for using as blush and lip colour,) bronzers and traditional blushers which add a subtle hit of colour to skin. However, I would personally avoid the lip colours which are a little greasy and not particularly pleasant on the pout, as well as the foundation which is overtly runny and a bit of an oily unblendable mess. Although the nail varnishes are only £1.50 each, they are available in 40 shades and provide a hit of colour for less than a latte; however, they provide a really thin and runny texture which needs to be built up to create a good colour result. If you want to play it safe and stick with products you know will work for you, definitely pop powders and shadows in your basket and save the rest for when they launch into store. Overall, this is definitely a new brand you'll want to get on board with and you're sure to find a product or two to fall in love with - as long as you don't expect the earth in return.
