Launched in 1996, Caudalie's Beauty Elixir has become a cult product amongst beauty enthusiasts and can be seen adorning the table of many a makeup artist. Its unique mist and addictive fragrance, partnered with its radiance enhancing ingredients, make this a bottle of something special. But do you know the history of this blogger favourite? I hope you're sitting comfortably...  "Once upon a time, there was a book of spells found on the banks of the Seine, in Paris. Doctor Hertzog, who was renowned for his mesotherapy treatments, found a recipe in it for the youth elixir used by Queen Isabella of Hungary in the 17th century. It is said that she charmed the King of Poland, thirty-five years her junior, with her radiant complexion. The dermatologist entrusted his discovery to Mathilde Thomas, who was just launching Caudalie. The two decided to rework the original formula and create a contemporary version, more in line with the expectations of today’s women for an instant glow."

Although it seems like a fairytale, in 1996 Caudalie's Beauty Elixir was born. The part serum, part toner formulas contains a unique cocktail of ingredients: benzoin to soothe the skin, myrrh to renew, rosemary essential oil to purify, lemon balm to calm and peppermint to stimulate, along with orange blossom to soften, rose for radiance and, of course, moisturizing grape pulp extract, Caudalie’s signature ingredient. It can be applied to tired skin in the morning or before a night out for instant radiance and a quick 'pick me up'. Not only can it be spritzed over the face to help tighten pores and smooth out features, but can be applied between foundation and powder to set the make-up. It's also a must-have for frequent flyers, helping to revitalise the skin after a long moisture-zapping flight.

For the fans of the two million bottles already sold (16 a minute since launch,) Caudalie's creator Mathilde Thomas wanted to develop a Collector’s Edition by a high profile style icon. She invited L’Wren Scott to design the bottle and she accepted immediately, having been a fan of the iconic product from the start. Describing the design and collaboration, L’Wren Scott said: "I worked on the bottle at the same time as my 2013 fall/winter collection, which was inspired by Austrian painter Gustav Klimt. I borrowed the idea of mosaics and a female silhouette. Since I was focusing just on the visual effect, I treated this collaboration like an art project." Mathilde Thomas added: "The interwoven bunches, like vine shoots, are a refined and feminine pattern, which is exactly what we wanted. We tried out several colors before opting for a glossy black." The simple design is truly timeless and makes this somewhat a collectors item for fans of the brand and L'Wren herself. I'm a fan of the light formula, always ensuring it's close at hand and a desk essential no matter where I am - it's great at giving your skin (and mind) a boost, while helping to reveal the radiance within. An Autumn staple product that will take you into 2014 and beyond.

The limited edition bottle is available online and via Caudalie outlets, including Space NK: 30ml £11.50 or 100ml £32.00
