A maxi dress not only covers a multitude of sins (namely the fact I've been really slacking with the gym this January, instead choosing to stay home with leftover treats from Christmas and a Netflix boxset,) but it also makes a real statement. If you're already bored of pulling the same things out of your wardrobe every morning, then a well placed maxi could do you wonders. Paired with some opaques, a great pear of boots and a leather jacket, it keeps you warmer than you'd anticipate too - especially if it's got wonderfully flowing sleeves like this one. Come the summer I'm all about the maxi, but until recently it's not been something I've really dabbled in outside of the warmer season; upon discovery of this though, that all changed. I'm a total convert.

I had my eye on this for ages, but having spent a small fortune pre-xmas on festive outfits I couldn't really justify splashing out another £59.00 on a dress I may not actually get much wear out of. When it dropped down to just £19.00 in the Next legendary sale, I couldn't leave the store without it - it was meant to be. Although I've replaced the under-slip with a much better and more opaque one from Marks & Spencer, the dress itself is great quality and has so many little details; my favourite is the buttons across the v-neck, making this seem relaxed and a little bit vintage simultaneously. Another great detail is the slits that run down almost parallel to your legs, flashing a bit of skin and also helping this to really flow as you move. The colours are warming on the skin and perfectly suited to take you from one season to the next... All you need to do is swap those boots for a pair of sliders and you're sorted!
I paired this fabulous maxi with a pair of DuoBoots rose gold boots that have been lingering in my wardrobe for ages, waiting for just the right outfit to set them against. I've popped them on a couple of times with jeans and they always get a reaction, but I really wanted to show them off as part of something special; this maxi was like a match made in heaven for them. They're super comfy, thanks to the fact they come in a variety of widths and sizes outside of the norm to ensure the perfect fit, and the leather quality is dreamy; the only downside is that they're super tight around my legs and give me cankles, so right now they look a bit odd with shorter dresses - I'm hoping they loosen up over time!

The perfect finishing touch for this look was a slick of red lipstick (this one is a super hydrating berry tone from L'Oreal Paris' Age Perfect range) and my current work bag from Marc Jacobs, which was a bargain from Bicester Village in their Black Friday sales. It's a great size, allows me to chuck everything in without worrying, as well as being the perfect Winter hue that's a great alternative to black. Sometimes I get a bit bored of monochrome colours, especially on a dreary day, so adopting a berry tone is the perfect antidote - that also goes with pretty much everything. Even pink. (Trust me, I've tried!)
Although the colours and pattern of this dress kind of blend into the colour and pattern of the Exquisite Peacock Emporium where we stopped for coffee (and the biggest muffin I've ever attempted to eat,) I kinda love it. It may hurt your eyes a little (soz) but I'm super excited to try new things and be pushed from my comfort zone, with a little help from the fabulous Kaye. That's what fashion is all about isn't it... Experimenting, having fun and seeing what happens? And that's exactly what we did here. I hope you like it.
