Update Your Makeup Bag For Spring In Three Easy Steps

How glorious are the days right now? Full of sunshine, iced coffees and happiness. I really come to life in the warmer months, shedding my stress and lethargy (as I shed my layers) in favour of a spring in my step and a pair of sunglasses on my head. This time of year it's easy to get carried away embracing summer dresses and the first sandal outing, but what of our makeup bags? The cosmetics we should be turning to significantly differ from season to season, but it's hard to gain perspective and often put down that heavy foundation or smokey eyeshadow in favour of something a little lighter. Although there are tonnes of guides out there telling you what you should be doing and what you should be buying, it's my belief that you need to embrace only three changes to totally revolutionise your look - and you've probably got the cosmetics lingering about at home already. So here are the switch ups you need to make to get ready for spring in only three steps.

1. EMBRACE A LIGHTER BASE
My foundation collection is categorised by Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter formulations, with the former being much lighter and more favourable to a dewy finish. During the colder months I rely on heavier bases to add warmth to my skin tone and conceal a plethora of sins, but in the springtime I fully embrace a much lighter base that allows my natural radiance to shine through. This is the time of year to re-visit the BB and CC creams, as well as the much runnier foundations within your collection; instead of applying with a brush, try dabbing on with a sponge or Beauty Blender for a more 'airbrushed' finish that looks like you've just got great skin.

2. SWAP THE TONES
A flush of pink on the cheeks can be incredibly charming during winter, when it helps to convey the idea that we've just stepped out from the cold, but during the warmer months those pinky tones can be a touch too much. Swap out your usual blushers for a peach alternative, which is not only more flattering on most skin tones, but provides a natural glow that perfectly complements a tan. Add in a touch of bronzer buffed into skin in the shape of two '3s' (forehead to cheeks, to chin) and you're going to glow all the way to the beach. Bronzer doesn't need to be intimidating; just opt for a lighter tone and gently buff it into skin rather than contouring like a Kardashian.

3. SWITCH UP YOUR LIP TEXTURE
As a lover of lipsticks and lip balms during winter it can take a lot of coercion to switch them up for something more seasonal. However, a pinky-peach gloss, nude sheer bullet or matte liquid lipstick can provide all the pouty goodness you need without looking or feeling too heavy. Park those heavy colours until Autumn, instead picking up the nude-pinks which will work beautifully with your peachy-bronzed base - and require far less maintenance than a bold berry lip.

Why not try making the switch this weekend and see how much more ready for spring you look!
