Candle acquisition isn't something new to me. Even when I was a teenager my bedroom surfaces were covered in so many candles and tealights that it's a wonder I never started a fire underneath my Boyzone posters; I even spent the best part of a year creating my own and ruining every saucepan in the kitchen. (Mum wasn't happy.) Now I have a home to call my own and a fireplace that's just crying out to be decorated, that inner flame maven has gone into overdrive; at any given opportunity I'm lighting up my candle collection and watching the flames flicker. Isn't there something special about candlelight in the winter? One of my favourite things about this time of year is the new and limited edition home fragrances that hit stores, as well as the beautifully decorated little glass jars that just need someone to love them. There are so many great candles that will help to warm your home (metaphorically, not literally - no candle is *that* big!) this festive season, but here are five of my faves. I hope you like them as much as me.
1. Origins Feel Good Candle in Ginger, Bergamot & Clove (£28.00)
This recycled glass jar contains the most beautifully festive fragrance I've ever experienced. Thanks to the elements of ginger and clove, there's a real warmth and spice to the scent - making it perfect for this time of year. Although I can't seem to find any info on their website, I believe that Origins also donate a proportion of profits from this to good causes across the world: so it helps you feel good in more ways than one.
2. The Body Shop 'Frosted Berries' Candle (£10.00)
Those lovely folks at TBS definitely spent all their creative efforts on the box and ran out when they got to the candle inside, because it's a simple unbranded glass jar. However, the scent of sweet winter berries and the price point makes up for it; if you're one to coordinate your candles to your decor, this is inoffensive and affordable. Plus, it matches their limited edition body wash and lotion - so if you're obsessed with the scent, this just means your home can smell of it too.
3. Miller Harris 'Hope & Joy' Candle (£30.00 or £55.00 in gift set)
I adore Miller Harris scents for being so unique and invigorating, but this Hope & Joy candle ensures they're presented beautifully too. It's such a simple yet festive design, making just another candle into something all the more covetable and gift-able. The scent itself is Figue Amere (which contains bergamot, mandarin, rose, green violet leaves, cedar, amber and seamoss,) which is a rich delight for the senses. Not traditionally festive, but the deep base notes of the scent leave the atmosphere warm and snuggly.
4. Aromatherapy Associates 'Relax' Candle (£38.00)
After those stressful shopping trips and days clearing up after the family, we're all going to need a little moment of relaxation. This beautifully crafted candle is held in a frosted glass jar, making a real statement while keeping things subtle. Infused with West Indian bay and myrrh essential oils, it's like the three wise men have delivered it themselves. Burn of an evening and open up a bottle of wine.
5. Avon Gold Shimmer 3-Wick Candle (£8.00)
I often forget about Avon, but they offer some fab little gems that are all incredibly affordable. This three-wick candle is a perfect example, providing a great burn time alongside a subtly festive surround. Although the scent is almost non-existent, this looks pretty and is such a good price that it's hard to resist; it's a great one to use alongside a powerful scent when you don't want anything else to overtake it. Because sometimes it's just good to have something pretty on your fireplace.
