Fast overtaking other brands as one of my favourite fragrance houses, Miller Harris has the touch of the old fashioned about it - but in a completely endearing way. On the shelves of its boutiques are stacked only scents created with love and expertise, rather than focusing on trends or trying to keep the cost of ingredients as low as possible. There are no celebrity endorsements, no big marketing campaigns and no extravagant containers, because when your perfumes are this good you need no frills. I adore the simplicity of their bottles, the freshness of their approach and the truly unique scents that come from their fragrance labs (and they just keep getting better than ever.) This summer they're launching a new duo that's been designed to perfectly complement and transition from one to the other; based on the idea of 'night and day', individually they're beautiful but together they take you on a scent journey. Miller Harris describe the duo: "Lumière Dorée is the golden aura that every morning enfolds the night; Etui Noir is the magic shadow that each night sets free the day."

Evoking the feeling of a sunrise, Lumière Dorée features top notes of bergamot, petit grain and orange, heart notes of neroli, jasmine and orange blossom, mixed with a base of cashmere wood, vetiver, amber and white musks. Although it's rich and discerning, it's also a light and enchanting way to wear such heavy notes; the orange blossom really comes through to lighten the whole scent and make it suited for long sunny days. Contrasting completely, Etui Noir is all about the provocative deep nighttime elements; it features top notes of bergamot, tangerine and elemi gum, heart notes of iris butter, incense and cashmere wood, with a base of patchouli, vetiver, leather and amber. Rather interestingly this is actually quite unisex, thanks to the more masculine notes of leather and wood, so it's definitely one you could share with your partner or enjoy alone. I've become very disengaged with a lot of overly sweet, commercial and predictable scents, so Miller Harris provide the perfect antidote by focusing on what's important: beautiful timeless fragrances that tell a story. You can't get better than that.
The two new Miller Harris scents, Lumière Dorée and Etui Noir are priced £65.00 for 50ml and launch on 2nd June: www.millerharris.com
