The Body Shop Instaglow CC Creams: Interesting Concept, Questionable Delivery

Anything that promises to add a glow to my complexion is something I immediately want to test. We all suffer with lack of radiance, often brought on by a combination of late nights and ageing playing havoc with our inner glow, so it's no surprise that radiance boosting products are becoming increasingly popular. The Body Shop have been knocking pretty much every new launch out of the park this year, bringing affordable and effective solutions to the high street; very much influenced by the Korean trends that are sweeping the nation, the majority of their innovations have been focused on offering hydration and radiance. Taking that one step further is their new trio of Instaglow CC Creams, which not only capitalise on our obsession with taking selfies for social media, but our need to illuminate our complexions and look like we're oozing health from within. Formulated with SPF20 to add a touch of sun protection simultaneously, these three lightweight creams claim to revive your skin with a healthy-looking glow. But how do they stand up and are they worth a purchase?


Available in three shades (Bright Glow, Peachy Glow and Warm Glow,) they claim that the multi-tasking formula illuminates, minimises the appearance of pores, reduces shine and moisturises for up to 24 hours. Non comedogenic, suitable for all skin types and described as the 'perfect primer' I was instantly impressed with the promises these little tubes made. The tones do help to counteract dullness and brighten your usual products, but what I am incredibly disappointed with is the fact there's not actually any 'glow' to be seen. Without illuminating particles or a touch of shimmer, these cream formulas become complexion correcting products - rather than a base that can illuminate as promised.

Although the colours look quite scary when they're applied to the skin, the trick is to use them to boost your natural complexion and add them to your usual foundation or moisturiser - rather than relying on them completely to create the perfect base. They are marketed for different ethnicities, but actually they also offer different colour boosting properties no matter your skin tone. (Bright Glow for illuminating, Peachy Glow for counteracting dullness, and Warm Glow for adding a sunkissed hue.) I personally found the texture to be quite heavy and in needing of some real elbow grease to buff the product effectively into skin, which left me wondering whether it was worth the effort at all. After initially feeling excited to try these, I have to admit they just didn't win me over; maybe I was using them wrong, maybe I was misunderstanding their purpose, but whatever the case these didn't make the grade.
