If there's any bug, sniffle, lurgy or ailment doing the rounds, then it seems to stop by my front door to say hello. I'm not normally a sick person, but the last few months I seem to have barely spent a full week feeling 100%; from 24hr tummy bugs, chest infections and full-on flu, you name it and I've suffered it. Although there's nothing more you can do than wrap up warm, sip on honey and lemon, dose yourself with paracetamol and watch boxsets of your favourite telly show, there is a magical little green bottle that can help you feel a touch better. It's been my saving grace on more than one occasion over the last couple of months, helping to clear my head and soothe my muscles simultaneously. Moa's Green Bath Potion may look like something you'd pick up from a 1940's apothecary, but it's actually a fabulous little product that provides an experience that's like bathing in a metaphorical bottle of Covonia cough syrup. It's comforting, clearing and helps you face the day.
This unusual concoction stars a reassuring blend of peppermint, fennel, fir needle and sweet birch to refresh, detoxify, calm and relieve aching muscles. (Yes it totally smells like throat sweets, but when you're sick that's about the only scent you can pinpoint anyway!) Moa also claim it helps to "dispel negativity, focus the mind and magically put a spring back in your step" when 2-3 capfuls are added to a tub of steaming water; I can't say it helps overhaul my emotions, but it very much helps to soothe away that sick feeling - albeit temporarily. 100% natural, this invigorating soak contains sunflower seed, jojoba and yarrow extracts to help hydrate and replenish skin, while fragrant oils help to invigorate. As soon as I opened the cap of this glass bottle and breathed in the aroma, I knew I would be saving it for a rainy (coughing, spluttering) day; and I did.
Moa may sell this as a great pre-bed treat, but in all honesty it's a very functional oil that helps to eliviate the aches and pains we associate with winter colds. If you've ever put your head over a bowl of steaming water and added in a few drops of essential oils, then this provides the same result - just totally ramped up. Right now I'm feeling like my body isn't my own (it's turned into that of an 80 year old woman,) but after a quick soak with a dash of Moa Bath Potion I definitely feel like my head is clearer, my joints are less achy and my head isn't pounding as heavily. It's as essential as a stash of Lemsip in my opinion - and probably much more effective.
The Moa Green Bath Potion is available from Cult Beauty, priced £27.50.
