Bobbi Brown are well known for creating wearable, lustworthy and universal palettes, and come Christmas they sprinkle a little bit of magic over each and every one of them. Last year they created something that was so brilliantly kitsch and elegant for the holiday season that it was always going to be hard to top (see my feature on their 'Scotch on the Rocks' collection from 2014 here,) so it was with anticipation and glee that I unwrapped 2015's offering. There may be nothing new, noteworthy or particularly special about their collection launched in time for Christmas gifting, but isn't the point of a Christmas gift to be something that's loved and cherished for the rest of the year? Although there are a couple of interesting launches, on the whole Bobbi Brown has kept it simple; they're once again doing what they do best by offering up a portfolio of wearable shades and textures that are packaged in beautiful palettes. Why fix what aint broke?
I may be disappointed to see the same glossy black packs (oh Bobbi, why couldn't you have at least added a bit of glitter into the resin?!) but each colour within the palettes is totally wearable, no matter your personal style. At upwards of £26.50 for a piece of the pie, these products of course needed to be relevant for more than just the holiday season - and they are just that. Nudes, greys, shimmering taupes and glittering silvers are enhanced with a slick of pink gloss or red lipstick; all of the shades are pretty much interchangeable, meaning you definitely only need one of the pieces from the collection, but they each offer something a little bit loveable.
The key products that are worth a separate mention include the limited edition 'Sequin' eyeshadows (£25.00) that are available in four jewel toned shades; each offers a marbled effect that together creates something a little more exciting - you never quite know what the result on your eye will be! Marbled eyeshadow may be nothing new (you can get high street versions for under a fiver if you want to dabble without forking out a small fortune,) but I believe this is the first time Bobbi Brown have tried their hand at creating something that capitalises on this trend. There are also a couple of liquid highlighters (£26.00) in pump tubes that are worth a look (a separate feature on them to follow!) while the lipsticks, as always, provide a fabulous pigment and comfortable texture.
Initially I was somewhat underwhelmed and disappointed that this collection could be interchangeable with pretty much any others from the last twelve months, but the more I look at the products the more I realise they're trying to please as many customers (both new and old) as possible. Although sometimes you have to stick your neck out and create something that excites, sometimes it works from a commercial point of view just to stick to what you do best. For dedicated Bobbi Brown fans, this won't really offer up anything worth parting with your hard earned cash over; however, for those that are new to the brand or dabble in a bit of Bobbi now and again, you can be assured that any purchase is an investment piece that you'll get a lot of use out of. And sometimes that's just what you need.
