I was only thinking a little while ago that there has been a distinct lack of innovation in the hair category this year, only for a huge selection of products to land on my desk all at once and change my mind. Over the last six months or so I've definitely stripped back my hair care routine, preferring to focus on a good quality shampoo and conditioner with minimal styling product, rather than overloading my barnet with everything going. However, I did miss the benefits a singular product with lots of great ingredients could bring: smoothness, shine, manageability and addictably-touchable hair. After chopping and changing, these three wonder formulas are the ones I'm sticking with indefinitely - not only because they're easy to use and effective, but because they're lightweight and perfect for those of us with thin hair that doesn't like being weighed down.
1. L'Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil-in-Cream (£6.99)
I fell in love with Mythic Oil's oil-in-cream a year or so ago, as it helps to leave hair feeling soft, manageable and shiny without any residue. Hallelujah, because this is the new high street (and therefore more affordable) alternative. Enriched with six different flower oils, the sumptuous cream instantly absorbs into the hair to provide intense nourishment without weighing it down. When a pea-sized amount is massaged into the mids and ends of wet hair, I feel that drying is a much easier process; the ends are left feeling a touch healthier, while I benefit from the glossiness of an oil without the weight they can sometimes bring.
2. Redken One United Multi-Benefit Treatment (£17.80)
When a product promises 25 different benefits I tend to put my cynical hat on. However, this lightweight and deeply conditioning spray works to hydrate while simultaneously boosting the performance of other products. It conditions, improves manageability, reduces dryness, detangles, helps to strengthen, primes hair for styling, helps prevent breakage/heat damage, shields against external aggresors, smoothes, controls frizz, adds shine and controls fly-aways - all in a couple of squirts. I spritz this all over my wet hair before blowdrying and instantly feel the difference; before I've even combed it through my hair feels so much softer and totally detangled. Although many of the 'benefits' are actually descriptive words or repeated traits, there's no denying this is one awesome product.
3. Maria Nila True Soft Argan Oil (£16.99)
Definitely one of the best new brands to launch into the UK in the last year, Maria Nila is a professional brand by trade - therefore providing professional quality results. This nourishing argan oil softens, moisturises and strengthens hair while eliminating frizz. The gel-like texture is unusual and unexpected, but this lightness helps it to absorb into the hair practically instantaneously, without weighing hair down or overloading the surface. It's so easy to add too much oil to your hair, but with this it's really quite hard to create a limp look. We all know argain oil is good for our hair, but this takes a cult ingredient and gives it a modern twist... You can even use it as a finishing product by using a few drops on the ends of hair for a polished look.
