In my opinion, women shop for beauty in one of two ways: with their head, or their heart. The head may make you opt for an investment piece, great formula or something you know you've been desiring for long enough to justify it; the heart, on the other hand, has a tendency to fall in love at first sight based on pure beauty. Burberry cosmetics thoroughly come under that second category. Although some of the formulas are fabulous (others more questionable,) the real selling point of this quintessentially British brand is just the pure level of extravagance; you can't help but desire everything they launch for no other reason than it's 'oh so pretty!' This Christmas they've once again not disappointed, bringing together the beauty of a festive collection with the practicality of actually what we'll use beyond New Years Eve. So many brands focus on injecting so much festive cheer that they forget that we've actually got to use these excessively glittery products after Santa leaves them in our stocking - but every single thing from Burberry's holiday collection is wearable 365 days of the year. Yes, red and gold are somewhat predictable for Christmas, but this is Burberry red and gold!
The edit is somewhat paired back and manageable, featuring a red lipstick and polish, a beautiful highlighter and a solid perfume - alongside the glitter version of the My Burberry scent which I featured here. (You can also nab a golden lipstick, gloss and eye cream, but for me that's a bit of golden overkill! These products are the ones that are practical, beautiful and universal.) The reds are very much 'classic vixen' and not for the fainthearted, providing a fabulous pop of colour that will leave you feeling amazing; there's something about the way a powerful red lip and coordinating nail makes a woman feel - what better gift to give this Christmas?
The Gold Glow radiance boosting highlighter (£45.00) is absolutely stunning and provides a beautiful understated shade that's much more wearable than the bright yellow golds you often see, adding a touch of radiance to cheekbones while simultaneously infusing skin with the scent of My Burberry. Yep, the highlighter actually has a delicate fragrance - great if you're a fan of My Burberry like me, but not so great if you're not (or prone to irritation from fragranced products.) This definitely isn't an every day product, as you'll want to cherish it for as long as possible, but the result on the skin is subtle enough to be worn throughout the year.
If you're a big fan of the My Burberry scent, then you may also want to expand your collection with the solid fragrance too. Packaged beautifully in a handy bag-sized golden pot, the solid fragrance is also infused with delicate shimmering flecks to catch the light. The result is a fragrance boost that will ensure you smell fabulous throughout the day, while your pulse points are adorned with a subtle glow. I do love a solid fragrance for on-the-go, but there are so few decent ones available right now; here's hoping this is the beginning of a resurgence and the trend takes off again in 2016.
Burberry have really thought about what their customer wants from a beauty range at Christmas, and thoroughly delivered. The products are wearable and universal in tone, but also pure indulgence and totally lustworthy. Even the boxes they come in feature a little Burberry bow, making them a little bit more special and perfectly suited for gifting. It's not often we get to treat ourselves to a piece of makeup that's purely driven by lust, but this festive season it's definitely worth picking up a piece or two from Burberry - or emailing this link to a loved one as a not-so-subtle hint!
