As women, we're constantly trying to be perfect at absolutely everything we do; the pressures that we feel from the outside world just amplify our feelings of inadequacy, meaning we're emotionally drained and collectively believing we're all failures. According to a recent survey conducted by Sanctuary, 40% of women admit they feel like they're about to burn out, 70% feel like they should be the 'perfect woman', while 80% admit to putting far too much pressure on themselves. Seeing as we accomplish (on average) 26 different tasks in any one day, it's not exactly like we're slacking off. So why do we feel so down on ourselves and what can we do about it? Juggling the roles of friend, daughter, sister, mother and partner with the ever increasing pressures of our working lives leaves little room for 'me time' - but that moment to ourselves can offer clarity and release, albeit momentarily. Sanctuary say: "As an iconic female British brand we want to challenge the perception that success equates to busyness, leaning-in and being a superwoman. To us, success and wellbeing lie in stepping back every now and again, appreciating those moments and letting go." They've created a film (below) which raises awareness of this cause, capturing the need for women to #LetGo and focus on the moments that matter. And I blooming love it.

I love this film and everything it stands for. It's so easy to pass through life at a hundred miles an hour, never taking the time to reflect or absorb what's around you; it's easy to get to the end of the working week and just want to sleep, without having really taken a single moment for yourself. The film illustrates perfectly how we'll all wish we had more time to absorb the simple things, so why not start today? Run a bath, pour in some beautifully scented bubbles, grab that book you've been meaning to read and rummage around the cupboard until you find some chocolate. Because you deserve it.
Expert life strategist Jenni Trent-Hughes says: "From the beginning of time women have been multi-tasking, but in the 21st Century we have become overly attached to our busyness; busy and stressed have somehow become inextricably linked with success. In order to be really successful we need to #LetGo of these antiquated attitudes. Think of it as carrying a wagon behind you. The more that is in the wagon the harder it is to pull and the harder it is to pull, the more tired you will be and the less distance you will cover." I can certainly relate to this; I never give myself time to re-balance or re-energise, I just keep battling through until I become mentally or physically exhausted. She's devised four easy ways to #LetGo which we can all integrate into our daily lives with ease - and I'm definitely going to start.
1. BE GRATEFUL EVERY MORNING
First thing in the morning, before you say a word to anyone and start planning your day, ask yourself ‘what am I grateful for?’ and whatever it is then say ‘thank you’. It doesn’t need to be anything grand or complicated, it could simply be your family, your lovely soft skin or that the dog didn’t chew your new shoes.
2. TODAY'S TOP THREE
They could be small things, medium things or giant things – but stick to just three. Write them on a little notepad and cross them off when you’ve done them; don’t put them in your phone, write them on a piece of paper. At the end of the day rip the paper up into little pieces and throw it away. Remember to be reasonable: solving world hunger or learning Mandarin is just asking for trouble.
3. TURN OFF TIME
Turn off your phone and or tablet for 30 minutes per day. You can divide the time if you’d like but nothing smaller than ten minutes each time and it must be off. Not on silent. Perhaps choose this for your commute home, when you’re preparing the evening meal or when you’re soaking in the bath. But always off.
4. COMMUTE = YOUR TIME
Read a frivolous book. Crochet a scarf. Look at holiday brochures. Meditate. Do NOT plan your next work day. Do NOT worry about the kids’ homework. Do NOT read celebrity gossip stories and worry why you’re not managing like Gwynnie.
I rarely have moments to myself, but my 'bath nights' are a way in which I can let go of the week's pressures and pamper myself - even if for an hour. I'm making a concerted effort to stop working in the evening, see more of my friends, pop out for a walk or even pick up a coffee from down the road just so I leave my at-home office for fifteen minutes. It's so important that we all #LetGo, stop putting so much pressure on ourselves to be perfect and realise that, yes, we all have as many hours in the day as Beyonce... But we don't have her millions, her nineteen members of staff or her personal trainer. Let's get real.
