The hair category is having a bit of a moment. For too long the new brands and product launches have left no lingering feeling of excitement within me, chruning out the same old thing in a new pack and calling it an industry revalation. However, things are about to change... A plethora of new hair products and groundbreaking brands are about to hit the market, offering benefits that take influence from the skincare category. First up is a brand hailing from Stockholm with over 30 years of experience within the hair industry; Maria Nila offers a wide range of exclusive colour-protecting haircare and styling products that aim to create beautiful styles and the most perfect of results. If you dye your hair or are simply concerned with keeping your natural tones looking their best, then Maria Nila offers the solutions you'd expect from your hair products (adding volume, smoothing, targeting dryness) with added colour care properties in every bottle.

Every formula is sulphate and paraben free, contains a unique 'colour guard complex' and is 100% vegan too. Each individual range also includes a range of nourishing and beneficial vitamins, minerals and oils to ensure your hair looks and feels fantastic - from volumising Vitamin B5 to hydrating Argan Oil, there's a little extra something for everyone. Although the shampoo, conditioner and treatment masque are beautifully formulated and leave my hair feeling soft, bouncy, shiny and full of life, it's the Colour Refresh treatment that's got me really excited. Available in thirteen different tones to suit all hair colours (brunette, blonde, red, platinum, grey and even turquoise!) each bottle contains a nourishing treatment with colour pigments to help refresh hair colour in under ten minutes.
You simply pump the tinted cream into your hands and apply like a regular hair treatment, leaving it to get to work before you hop into the shower. Although it doesn't 'dye' your hair as such, it does help to refresh the tone of your colour and leave it looking really healthy. Between salon appointments (or simply as a refresh before a big occasion,) this is a really effective way to keep your hair looking and feeling fab with little effort required. I've used it a couple of times (once a week works well for maintenance) and have been pleasantly surprised at the way my hair looks after it's blowdried; there's not a huge difference, but it just gives my colour a boost and ensures the overall look is healthy - rather than looking parched or in need of a trim.
Although I've opted for a simple 'Cacoa Intense' dark brown shade, there are plenty of tones for blondes, red heads, silver vixens and even those who want to experiment with something a little bolder. There's even a lilac, pink and turquoise available to add a touch of pastel to hair without the commitment required with a permanent colour change; you can mix the product with a conditioner for a subtle finish, apply just to the ends or even create a few flashes of colour by adding just to a few strands. The possibilities are endless and the results aren't permanent! I haven't used the pastel shades myself so i can't testify to their effectiveness or longevity, but there's no reason why you couldn't wash away the colour in a week and return to your more office-appropriate tone afterwards.
I love everything about this brand - from the soft touch bottles, the simple design and colour coded packaging, to the fact it's sulphate free and leaves my hair feeling nourished and controlled without being weighed down. Right now you can only buy it online via Sally's or selected salons, but I expect big things for Maria Nila. At that affordable price point and unique offer, I've no doubt they'll be on the high street before the year is out.
Are you intrigued by the 'colour refresh' concept? Will you be keeping your eye out for Maria Nila in your hairdressing salon this summer?
