I've become a little obsessed with the classic, elegant and slightly sassy 'cat flick' look that's become so popular with celebrities and bloggers alike. It's a great way of making yourself look 'made up' but not 'overdone' within only a few minutes. Keeping the rest of your look muted and understated is the key to success, as is a three stage approach to applying liner - starting from the middle to the outer edge, the inner edge to the middle and finally the flick to finish. However, half of the battle can be fought with a product that really aids application and makes the process as simple as possible. There are so many liquid eyeliner pens available it's hard to know where to turn, so I've been testing seven different ones to bring you the best products for the job.

1. Seventeen Make Your Mark Soft Eyeliner Pen (£3.99)
I don't know how they do it, but Seventeen seem to make great products that are incredibly affordable. Considering this is cheap as chips, it really does provide an amazing strength of colour and helps to create a feline look in seconds - the nib is sturdy and great for beginners, plus it's thin enough to avoid messy lines or mistakes; you simply layer over the result until you're happy. A great bargain buy that I'd be happy to recommend.
2. 2True Tech Extreme Eyeliner (£4.50)
A brand that's slowly creeping onto my radar thanks to their great formulations, 2True's eyeliner is incredibly thin and precise - great for when you want to create really delicate looks or add a simple touch of liner for the office. I also love the face that this is available in brown, for a softer result that can be worn with a slick of berry lipstick for a fabulous look. I'm amazed at how thin the nib is, without fraying or being hard to manoevre. Another great buy.
3. Kiko Cosmetics Eyeliner Kajal (£9.90)
Although this is a much chunkier version of a liner pen, it's double ended and provides some serious clout when it comes to creating strong looks. If you like your eyeliner giant, then this is the one for you; it's so easy to great mega cat flicks that don't bleed or smudge - although it does need a touch-up if you're in a sweaty environment or get caught in the rain. I also love the chunky crayon that's included, which provides the perfect alternative for a smudgier and smokier result.
4. Rimmel Scandaleyes Jumbo Liquid Eyeliner (£5.49)
Although I had high expectations of this jumbo liner, it's so chunky that it's incredibly difficult to manouvre around the eye and apply with precision. It's definitely not for beginners and is hard to create definition, as well as smudging and causing a mess within a few hours. Definitely not my favourite pick.
5. Eye of Horus Eyeliner (£17.00)
A brand that's been under-the-radar to date, Eye of Horus specialise in eyeliners and colour cosmetics that are inspired by Egyptian culture. This liner doesn't offer the strongest colour, but it's easy to use and can be built-up gently for a subtler result. The understated pigment is best suited for nervous eyeliner enthusiasts, as you can't really go wrong - you just need to have patience and practice! It's quite expensive for what it is though, so I'd approach with caution.
6. Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner (£12.00)
The one that started it all, this is hands-down my ultimate favourite. The skinny tip allows you to create flicks with ease, without overloading the lid or applying too much product. It's easy to build up the result, the colour is strong enough to last all day and there's no flaking or smudging. The only thing is that it does have a tendency to dry out a little, so you have to ensure you click the lid back on securely after every use.
7. Revlon ColorStay Liquid Eye Pen (£6.99)
My new favourite, without a doubt. The super fine tip ensures you can create even the tiniest of cat flicks without smudging or messing up, while the jet black colour is hard to compete with. This is a fab universal liquid eyeliner that would suit professionals and novices alike, allowing you to be creative and experiement with different looks. This is definitely on my re-purchase list.
