Cleansing brushes are not a new concept. They've been claiming to revolutionise our cleansing routines for a number of years, and charging a hefty price tag in the process. Clarisonic first claimed to have the answer to blemish-prone skin (while charging nearly £200 for the secret,) but the technology and concept has filtered down and become a lot more affordable. The Magnitone Lucid Facial Brush is a lighter and simpler alternative (as well as being much more cost effective at £49.99,) that gently cleanses and exfoliates skin to remove impurities and dead skin cells. It has two cleansing modes, with the soft brush producing over 10000 fast-pulsing rotation-oscillations per minute to deeply clean and smooth skin. Unlike a lot of other models I've tried which are abrasive and messy, this is much gentler and feels more like skin is being buffed rather than ripped to pieces. Simialrly, unlike other brands which have created a device which simply causes a mess, the Magnitone Lucid gently rotates and oscillates for a more controlled cleansing experience.
Suitable for even sensitive skin, it claims to help to 'purify' pores (i.e. lifting any residue that may be lingering in them and causing spots,) reducing the occurrence of blackheads and breakouts. It also claims to allow skin to better absorb nutrients and moisture from other products used after, including moisturisers, as the surface is left clear and ready to soak up any goodness. It's waterproof and therefore can be used in the shower, making it easy to integrate into a morning routine; I've been using this about twice a week just to aid the performance of my face cleanser and in the place of a traditional exfoliator. My skin does feel a little cleaner and fresher after use, but as I don't tend to suffer from breakouts it's hard for me to comment on whether it's making a difference to blemishes or pimples.
Magnitone have made the design incredibly simple, ensuring it's easy to use and doesn't require an engineering degree to operate it. You simply turn it on and you're away; it even bleeps intermittently to ensure you're not over-using it and keep cleansing to around a minute or two. It's simple to charge and contains a magnetic attachment which allows you to charge it on the go or when abroad, ensuring it can help cleanse skin wherever and whenever you are. Although these gadgets are by no means essential, if you're struggling with your cleansing routine and need a little helping hand to lift dirt and grime, then Magnitone provide a much more affordable option. They're available in a multitude of colours too, being perfect for teens and adults alike that want to address skincare concerns - although it's worth noting they shouldn't be used on open spots or inflamed areas as it could become incredibly uncomfortable!
So, can facial brushes really aid a cleansing routine? They certainly replace the need for exfoliators and aid the performance of cleansers, leaving your complexion feeling fresh and smooth. They're a great addiiton to any routine and can help to lift impurities and tackle blemishes, but they should be used with caution. Overuse will only cause more problems than this can solve, leaving skin feeling a little sore and irritated, but when used occasionally they could certainly help.
