Hair removal is definitely a topic that gets us passionate. Although it's never a pleasant process, it is an essential part of our routine that can take up valuable morning minutes when we'd rather be catching another five minutes in bed. If there was a way to remove your unsightly body hair forever, I guarantee you'd snap it up in an instant... Philips' Lumea Precision Plus IPL hair removal system claims to do just that. The easy-to-use system can prevent the reappearance of hair, on the face as well as the body, via targeted gentle pulses of light. The handheld device brings the benefit of inconvenient salon treatments to the comfort of your own home; Philips have been working with leading dermatologists to bring this product to life, ensuring that results are long-lasting and effective. A couple of months ago I gave one lucky reader the chance to put this piece of technology to the test, using the IPL system over eight weeks to see if it really could make a difference to her life. So, how did she get on?
I asked Helen a number of questions about her user experience, the product, the results and much more. You can read more about the device and the technology in my post here, but below is what she had to say about her time with the IPL machine...
Does the Philips Lumea Precision work?
Absolutely! I've noticed a massive difference in the growth of my leg hair since I started using the product about two months ago. As long as you understand that you won't see results immediately, and that hairs can be at different levels of growth, it's a great product. If you wait it out for a few sessions and remain optimistic, it definitely starts paying off.
What did you expect from the product before you started trialling it?
I was worried it might be a bit fiddly, with the different settings and the lengthy instructions (obviously ensuring you're using it correctly and safely!) However, this product is majorly user friendly; you simply charge the unit, place on the area you want to treat, wait for the green light and zap. It really is that easy.
What body part have you used the product on?
I've used it all over - on my legs, bikini and underarm. The underarm area takes literally seconds to do, and once you get the hang of how to use it, treating a full leg is a breeze. After around the third session I really started to notice the difference. The hair growth on my legs didn't feel as though it was coming back as thick or fast; it certainly felt a lot different than usual.
Now that you have been using the IPL for eight weeks, will you be going back to your previous method of hair removal?
I'll definitely continue to use the Lumea Precision Plus, but will also shave as I go forward. The IPL is a great addition to my routine, as I don't need to do use any hair removal method as often. Hopefully the time will come when I can stop with the razors altogether, but for the meantime I still need to shave occasionally.
What do you think are the benefits of using the Philips Lumea Precision Plus?
Continued use of the IPL means less time and effort is needed to maintain hair-free and smooth skin; the benefits definitely outweigh any negative points. (I actually can't think of any negative points!) I would definitely recommend this to my friends as an investment in hair removal. My previous hair removal routine was that of any average woman in their 30's; I don't spend a fortune on treatments, but I've seen how much of a difference an IPL can make. I imagine that for those who do spend a lot on salon treatments, this would be worth the investment and then some!
Do you have any hints or tips for people who are new to using the Lumea Precision Plus?
Make sure it's fully charged before use to get the most out of the product, use the white pencil method (as advised in the instructions) so you know which areas you've covered, and avoid tattoos! Other than that, it's easy peasy.
The result is clear: Helen loves her Philips Lumea Precision Plus and has definitely seen a difference. She's alredy adjusting her routine and will continue to use the device in the coming months... Hopefully until she's hair free! Although these aren't cheap (costing around £450,) they are a great alternative to expensive and time consuming salon treatments. Would you consider investing in a Phillips IPL machine?
