Candle Rings: Candles With A Sparkling Bonus

If you were to step into my home, there's no denying I have a slight addiction to candles. I'm not a pyromaniac, I just love sitting in a room surrounded by beautiful scents and watching the flickering light of a candle. It's romantic, comforting and relaxing after a long day at work. Although I have candles for scent purposes (Diptyque, Molton Brown, Yankee Candle,) and candles for light purposes (Asda, Wilkinsons, Cargo,) there's a big gap in my life for candles with added fun. Bridging the gap between all three categories are 'Candle Rings', a company offering scented candles with an added sparkling surprise inside.

Although these candles burn normally and provide a subtle scent (this Vanilla Cupcake candle is almost identical to the Yankee Candle variety,) each candle also holds a precious ring inside that is only revealed after the candle is burned for about half of its life. It's quite exciting to check the candle every time it's blown out to see if it's time for the secret surprise inside! Although I've yet to get to that point, despite burning the thing for as long as I could squeeze in over the last week, I've experienced a very similar concept before and the jewels are always cute.

In every candle there's a ring valued between £10 and £1000, making it a kind of grown-up lucky dip or Kinder Egg. To find out the value of your jewel, you can post a picture to their Facebook page and wait to find out if you've scooped a winning piece of bling. To keep the jewel safe, it's packed in special metal wrapping to ensure the heat doesn't effect the ring or cause it to overheat, which can easily be pulled out of the wax once it's revealed.

Although the candle itself isn't the most stylish of designs and leaves a little to be desired in terms of aesthetics, this is a great concept if you're looking for an innovative gift. These candles are pretty huge too (about double the size of a standard candle,) making them good value for money at £24.99 each. All the Candle Rings candles are 100% handmade from pure soy wax and burn for around 150 hours - which is why it's taken me so long to even get close to the ring package!

If you remove the branded label and just use the candle as a simple way to fragrance your home, then you can't go wrong with one of these. They're not as beautiful or luxurious as a Diptyque candle, but what you do get is value for money and a secret surprise to boot. What do you think of this innovative concept of home fragrance?

Candle Rings are available in a variety of different scents and cost £24.99 each. Check out the website here: www.candlerings.co.uk
