Now the sun is out and we seem to be finally rid of the chilling winds, it's time to give our beauty routine a little overhaul. Like fashion, not all skincare and makeup products are made to be worn all year round - in the winter we need hardworking bases, strong colours and powerful moisturisers, but come spring we can replace them with something a little lighter. With the help of the Boots beauty department (which has everything under one roof and is even offering 3 for 2 on all beauty right now,) there are loads of little things you can pick up to give yourself a spring clean that don't even cost a small fortune. After I was asked to check out what Boots had to offer by Collective Bias, I popped along to my local Boots store and these are the goodies I picked up to help me meet the warmer months with a smile on my face and a glowing complexion.
1. Treat Your Skin
Over the colder months our skin will have taken somewhat of a battering. Winter winds, central heating and lots of rain mean the upper layers of our skin may be in need of special treatment to replace the moisture lost. Nivea have a fab new affordable anti-ageing range, which includes a Skin-Refining Serum and targeted Night Cream. Using these daily will help replenish any goodness lost, as well as tightening and firming the skin; the serum is super light and even acts as a great primer for makeup. The more we look after our skin, the less we have to conceal imperfections and worry about fine lines!
2. Give Yourself A Pedi
Our feet suffer in the colder months, thanks to being stuffed into socks and boots and forgotten about. We neglect our tootsies when we can't see them, which means they look horrendous when we actually want to get out the spring sandals. Using a rich foot cream (such as Soap & Glory's Heel Genius,) will help to hydrate cracked heels and smooth hard skin. Soak feet in a warm bowl of water with a drop of oil before you attempt to remove the three-month-old polish too, as it will help to soften skin and make an at-home pedi that little easier.
3. Prep, Prime & Conceal
I'm a firm believer in a great primer, as it creates a barrier between the skin and makeup to help it last all day. Targeted primers, such as Clinique's Anti-Redness Superprimer, also help to tackle skin concerns so we look our best. Available from counters in larger Boots stores, this is one staple that I now can't be without - having re-purchased it about three times already! Another must-have for Spring is a great BB Cream; much misunderstood, a great BB Cream can help smooth the complexion, conceal impurities and brighten skin to leave a 'just got back from a mini break' glow. I really love the No7 Beautiful Skin BB Cream as it's as true to the original Asian formulas as I've found in the UK; light and great for nude makeup days, it's a fab addition for Spring. All you need for a finishing touch is a great concealer to hide dark circles and unsightly pimples - the Seventeen Phwoarr Paint is really effective, affordable and lasts all day.
4. Brush Up
Having the right tools within your reportoire can really help to get the most out of your makeup collection. A great powder brush, highlighting tool and eyeshadow blender can ensure your makeup is flawless. Real Techniques are available in most Boots stores and provide affordable brushes and tools that are developed with the helping hand of Pixiwoo; they're light to hold, contain soft bristles and leave a delicate soft finish to the skin. Every woman needs a few in their collection, so why not spring clean your makeup tools and invest in some new brushes?
5. The Finishing Touches
If you've got a flawless base and glowing skin, then you can afford to place the focus on a power lip and a statement nail. L'Oreal's new Liquid Lipsticks provide the colour of the lipstick, but with the softness and shine of a gloss - they provide serious power punch and will be the must-have lip product for Spring. Models Own always have some fab nail collections and this Spring they're launching a range of polishes inspired by Mini Eggs. (Yes, really.) Available in five fabulous pastel shades, these polishes will make a statement and definitely update your nail wardrobe. Although they're not available in all Boots stores for a week or so, I've stuck these must-haves in as you can always ask your helpful Boots Assistant to sneak you one ahead of launch.
