If you want to create a truly striking look for the party season but don't really know where to start, here are my top three simple styles to take you from desk to dancefloor in under fifteen minutes.
1. Subtle Waves
If you can create sexy texture using your straighteners then you're halfway there. Create subtle volume and wave by keeping your tools on a medium setting and working from the front to the back. Take a section of hair no bigger than three centimetres, locking the plates around the top and folding away from your face. Work the plates around by 180 degrees and pull away from your head to create the curl - you should be left with a subtle wave that looks great when you spritz a little hairspray and ruffle through with your fingers. For tighter curls, simply use a smaller section of hair and turn up the heat.
2. Pinned Up
For a vintage inspired look, curl your hair as above but add a little something extra by pinning up your waves. To create a simple but glamorous look, leave the top section of your hair loose and concentrate on the lengths underneath. Pinch the end of individual curls and fold them underneath themselves, pinning in place on the lower section of your scalp. Repeat this roughly on all the lengths of your hair and you'll give the impression of a cute Gatsby-esque bob. This works even better on layered hair and the messier the better. Why not even add a cute grip, flower or headband to tie everything together?
3. Sideways
This is a personal favourite of mine as it's so easy to achieve and looks super complicated. Once you've curled your hair, take a section above one of your ears and twist the hair upwards; add in sections and continue to twist, until half your hair is away from your face. Secure the hair with some kirby grips, inserting them from the bottom and securing hair upwards (which also hides the pins.) Take the remainder of your hair on the other side and roughly twist up and pin into a bun, pulling out curls to keep it modern. Spray in place and you're good to go.
