Well established for their makeup tools that are really rather good, US brand Japonesque are now expanding their expertise into colour cosmetics for the first time. Launching exclusively in John Lewis stores, the range includes two foundation textures, concealers, blusher, eyeshadow duo and quad palettes, mascara, lipstick and lipgloss. The capsule collection provides all the basics in a variety of colours, with incredible textures that have been four years in the making. The 'Velvet Touch' foundation is a staple of the range, providing a luminous yet matte lightweight finish that covers imperfections without caking, while the blush colours help bring about a healthy glow when buffed into the skin. All 14 colour combinations of eyeshadow provide a highly pigmented colour with a hint of shimmer, which looks perfect on both upper and lower lids. The texture of the gloss is thick and gloopy, but provides a rich colour result that's halfway to a glossy lipstick.

What makes this range truly special though, is the unique designs that adorn the packaging; each palette has a one-off design created by dropping coloured gel onto the surface by hand. Not only does this make the packaging look beautiful and perfect for presents, but ensures that when you take a piece of Japonesque home with you it's truly unique. The palettes are good quality and each contain little mirrors, while even the tops of the lipgloss contain marbled gel to bring the range together. I've no doubt that this will become a makeup brand to challenge some of the more established names available in department stores, especially as it looks and feels so different. I had no reservations that Japonesque's debut makeup line would be something to lust after (thanks to their preceding reputation around the Japonesque makeup tools,) and they haven't disappointed. I look forward to seeing new additions in the coming months and watching the brand grow from strength to strength.
