Zerona: The Laser Treatment That Melts Your Fat Away

Like most girls, I have lumps and bumps I rather weren't there. I hate the gym, I love cake and I'd rather spend an evening watching Hollyoaks than in a spinning class. When I do manage to get my backside into gear and start eating healthy, exercising more and generally trying to be fitter, there are certain areas that just don't seem to shrink. For you it may be your upper thighs, that last little podge of post-baby belly or even the dreaded back fat that hangs over your bra looking unsightly. For me it was the upper outer thigh area, which just seemed to be bumpy and frustratingly wobbly. Sometimes there's nothing a diet, bit of exercise or lifestyle change can do to help - which is where the revolutionary treatment from Zerona comes in.

Zerona is the first non-invasive body contouring procedure to effectively remove excess fat, without the negative side effects associated with surgical methods. It utilises cold laser technology that was originally developed to assist lipsuction procedures, but it was found that when used alone the cold laser helped patients to reduce inches from their waist, hip and thighs. The process is very simple - you get comfy on a bed and the Zerona device is placed over the top of your body, it's five lasers targeted to your specific areas of concern. It's turned on and left for twenty minutes, working painlessly to help remove fat from your body while you have a little downtime. After twenty minutes of the treatment you flip over and the same process occurs on your back to ensure the laser gets to all the places it needs to work. It's the laziest form of fat removal you could possibly experience.

So, how does it work? The cold laser technology effectively stimulates a hormone in your body that releases the content of fat cells while leaving other cells intact. It bursts the outer shell, allowing the fat to seep out and exit the body via the normal toxin removal process. Although the laser targets a specific area, as the hormone travels around there can also be benefits all over the body. The process is stimulated by standing on an intensive power plate for fifteen minutes after every treatment, allowing the blood to flow and the hormone to get to work. It's also vital to drink up to eight cups of water a day during the treatment, allowing the fat to be removed effectively from the body - so you do end up in the bathroom an awful lot! Caffeine and alcohol should be kept to an absolute minimum too, making the Zerona treatment a great way to kick-start a healthier routine or instigate a bit of a detox. It's recommended that the first treatment series should take place over two weeks, with a treatment taking place every 48hrs to continually kick-start the process. I had six sessions over two weeks, which is a lot of commitment but totally worth the time investment.

So, does it actually work? On average, patients tend to lose around 9cms from their body during a six session treatment course. I lost an incredible 17cms in less than two weeks. That's 17cms I lost simply by laying on a table, having a snooze, standing on a vibrating plate and drinking lots of water! Before I started the treatment I was incredibly skeptical, but it really did work for me and left my thighs a lot smoother and my stomach a lot flatter. Although I didn't lose three dress sizes, my clothes were a little looser around the hip area and I felt a lot more comfortable in myself. I was thoroughly impressed, especially as six weeks later I'm still seeing the results - my skin is a lot less 'bumpy' and I'm still feeling like I've just been nipped in a little. Although this isn't a permenant fix (if you start eating excessive amounts of cake then you'll just end up at square one,) it's a great solution if you just want to rid yourself of that nagging bit of flab that won't budge. This has been incredibly popular with brides-to-be and I can totally understand why: lay back, let the laser do the hard work and enjoy the results. Although this is incredibly expensive (around £999 for the full course of treatments,) it's effective and non-invasive, making it a much better alternative to liposuction.
