Must-have Makeup: Achieving a Glowing Complexion on a Budget

The best time to shine is during the summer months. Achieving that subtle glow, without looking like you've been out running in 30-degree heat, is no easy feat. Light reflecting products are essential for that fresh-faced, vibrant look that can really knock back the years and the time spent at the mirror. Here are my top tips for looking glowing, without going OTT.

After prepping your face with your usual cleansing routine, reach for a bottle of Caudalie Beauty Elixir. Not only refreshing, this helps create a glowing base while smelling slightly minty and feeling hugely invigorating. Instead of spending the big bucks on an illuminating primer, Revlon Photoready Skinlights Face Illuminator in Pink Light is the perfect alternative for year round use. It also doubles up as a highlighter for your cheekbones, if you choose not to use it as an all-over primer. The pale pink tint evens out complexion, as well as working perfectly when applied to the key light-touching areas for a real radiance boost.

When it comes to colour, a light to medium base will aid your radiance shining through; the Erborian BB Creme au Ginseng moisturises and nourishes as it covers. Spend a few minutes working this in with your fingers for an even and flawless finish. To banish bags and dark circles, the heavy-duty (but glowing) Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer is a must. Containing peptides and a vitamin moisturising complex, eyes look more awake and effortlessly sparkle.

Less is more when it comes to blush, a gentle sweep will draw more attention to the cheekbones where most of your glow will be concentrated. Revlon Baby Stick in Tahitian is the perfect pink glow that can be built up from pale to bright with ease, while retaining a slight sheen. To set, a dusting of Soap & Glory Glow All Out Luminizing Radiance Face Powder leaves reflecting particles all over the skin, without an overbearing colour result. The perfect accompaniment to a summer ready face!

A few dabs of Benefit High Beam on the cheekbones, worked in with the ring finger and swept under the brows, captures the light and draws attention to the most flattering areas of the face. I've taken to buffing this into my eyelids for a shimmer of colour that stays put, as well as bringing out the white in my eyes. Finish with a hint of gloss, such as Balance Me Shine On Tinted Lip Salve in Sheer Raspberry, so lips stay hydrated and kissable. For the ultimate in glowing complexion, keep to a strict set of pale, similar colours that lets your skin do the talking. Highlight the most common light reflecting areas of the face and you're on to a winner.
