Beauty box subscriptions have been becoming increasingly popular over recent months, with the likes of Glossybox, Birch Box and She Said Beauty all trying their hand at the service. High street retailer The Fragrance Shop recently joined the ranks, with a fragrance box designed for those keen to discover new perfumes. The concept is as simple as all other boxes of the same type: for a small fee of £5.00, subscribers receive a box of treats through their letterbox. The Fragrance Shop provide samples of six perfumes, along with details of the latest fragrance launches and a book of discounts, every quarter so scent enthusiasts can always be in the know.
I got my hands on the 3rd Edition of the Discovery Box which had samples of four women's scents – 'Perfume' by Thierry Mugler, 'Legend Pour Femme' by Mont Blanc, 'Quizas, Quizas, Quizas Passion' by Loewe and 'For Her' by Elvis Jesus - as well as two aftershaves for men, including 'Eau de Lacoste Noir' by Lacoste and 'Gentleman Only' by Givenchy. The samples in The Discovery Box are a handy size to throw in your bag for use on the move, but I wonder if it would make sense for one or two of the samples to be bigger. I don't know about you, but it always takes me a little while to decide whether I really like a new fragrance or not, and I feel the size of these samples doesn't really allow you to get to know the scents well enough to make a purchase.
If this were a monthly box these sizes would be perfect, but as this is a quarterly box I feel like it's not quite enough as each sample only lasts a couple of applications. I'd be more than prepared to pay a bit more for bigger samples, or it would make a lot of sense to have this as a monthly service - because £5.00 is still very much a bargain! That said, it's always nice to get pressies in the post and the third box features double discount vouchers so you can save a fortune if you decide you want to add one of the samples to your scent wardrobe. And as a firm fan of Vivienne Westwood perfumes (particularly Cheeky and Naughty Alice – unsurprisingly) I rarely move away from what I know, so The Discovery Box is a good chance for me to broaden my horizons.
Membership to The Discovery Club costs £5 per quarter. Find out more here.
