LFW: Backstage with GILES/Toni & Guy

This London Fashion Week has seen many inspirational looks and fabulous hair styles, but GILES is always a show to beat. I was lucky enough to be invited backstage to check out the preperation before the big show, so I spent my time snapping away and finding out the trade secrets. Hair for the GILES show was about long, weak, distressed locks inspired by Medieval women & Wednesday Adams. (A bit random, but totally true!) The long, wavy, post-plait texture was created by plaiting the hair in various thickness (tighter at the bottom and looser towards the root) and left to hang. It's a 'hair effect' not style apparently! The sleeves from the show were long and drooped, so the hair complemented the style by thick hair being thinned to create a distressed look, with added leave-in conditioner providing texture. While hair was being plaited and straightened over the top to achieve very soft waves, models with thick tresses were having their hair plaited and pinned to the scalp to create the overall effect. This is such a simple, yet effective, look and one I've been unintentionally replicating since my teens - plaited damp hair before bed anyone? I love how Toni & Guy create looks that are utterly fabulous, but equally transferable to your boudoir at home. Will you be re-creating this mermaid-esque look this Autumn?
