Cover FX are a makeup brand that are a little bit different. If you go to one of their counters, you won’t see the usual riot of colourful shadows and bright lippies, but what you will find is a whole range of high quality foundations, powders and concealers, with shades in everything from pure porcelain, to chocolate brown. Originally hailing from California, Cover FX landed in the UK a few years ago. The base-focused brand has a bit of a celeb following and one of their foundations has even been used on Angelina Jolie to cover her tattoos for a movie! I've been using their Illuminating Setting Powder, a finely-milled loose powder designed to help set make up and illuminate the skin at the same time.

The formula is free from parabens, mineral oil, fragrance, talc and gluten, so is perfect if you have sensitivities or allergies. The powder comes in 2 shades (light and medium) - the light shade is pretty translucent, so will work on a range of light to medium skin tones, with the medium shade being great for darker skin. I apply the powder using a Real Techniques stippling brush, putting a small amount on the brush and then sweeping over the top of my foundation. It makes my makeup stay in place throughout the day, as well as helping to mattify oiler areas. The powder is also perfect for making skin look a little more ‘glowy’, and does this without any obvious shimmery glitter. Sometimes illuminating products can be a little sparkly, but this one is extremely subtle. A 10g pot costs £26, but you only need a tiny amount per use, so a pot should last you almost a year – a pretty good investment!
