Covering greys and creating a lustrous colour result has been my hair mission for many moons. Sometimes taking a trip to the hairdresser is just too expensive, too inconvenient or too time consuming, so home hair colourants provide the perfect solution. I've tried every hair dye going, some resulting in disastrous consequences and bright red bathrooms, but these three products are the ones I keep going back to; they provide me with the confidence to dye my hair at home knowing the result will be long-lasting and flawless.

1. Garnier Nutrisse Cream £5.49
This is the dye championed by Davina McCall, providing her with shiny locks for over ten years. Like Davina, this hair dye has become like a reliable friend who I trust like no other. The dye is super easy to use, quick to develop and provides me with a deep colour result that lasts for around two months. After dying my hair feels healthy and soft, providing bounce and shine to my previously dull head of hair. Garnier's Nutrisse covers greys without a problem too, making it perfect for root touch-ups.
2. Schwarzkopf Color Mask £6.49
Relatively new to the home hair colourant market, Schwarzkopf's Colour Mask dyes and conditions simultaneously. The thick cream is easy to apply and provides a rich colour result that's great for a bit more depth - the reds in this range are exceptionally vibrant, making a professional result easy to achieve at home. The only drawback is that the colour range, as yet, is pretty limited; however, they're adding more shades all the time to meet demand.
3. L'Oreal Casting Crème Gloss £6.49
Produced with added Royal Jelly for exceptional shine, Casting Creme Gloss is the favourite of practically every major celeb (that are paid to endorse it!) The formula is ammonia free, making it a great choice to maintain hair health, while the end result is glossier than Cheryl Cole. Although this doesn't last as long as the other dyes, it's a great product to use between hairdresser visits when you need a pick-me-up at short notice.
