This fashion season has seen very muted tones, natural complexions and minimal eye makeup on the catwalks of London. The focus has very much been on the brows (left naturally bushy or darkened and shaped to perfection,) or the lips (think bee-stung red) leaving the eyes a little rejected. Past seasons have seen so many dark smokey eyes that it's been hard to tell the difference between shows, so it's extremely refreshing to see a usually dark time of year have a bit of brightness to look forward to. Topshop broke all the moulds with their Unique AW13 collection this weekend, showcasing a bright blue striking eye that makes any colour iris pop to perfection. I love the strength of this look, especially as it's so completely the opposite of what you'd expect come Autumn. Hannah Murray used Topshop's own makeup range to create the look: ‘For the make up we took inspiration from the 90’s Brit Pop fashion colours and textures, there’s a New Wave feel to the collection but with a cool toughness; the girls have attitude but with ease. We created a Wedgewood blue chalky eye to contrast against the high gloss, PVC textures of the fashion. I used the metallic blue cream of the Eye Quad in Game On as a base before creating an almond shape around the eye using the Wedgewood blue shade of the Eye Duo in Solstice. The make up feels very modern, the juxtaposition of colours and textures gives a toughness to the look seen in the pairing of a chalky eye against a high gloss PVC nail.’ What do you think of this bold blue eye? Will you be fishing out the blue eyeshadow come September?
