As someone who is guilty of going through the ‘cut, grow, cut’ cycle with my hair as it fails to grow much longer than my shoulders, I couldn’t wait to hear more about the 3 More Inches range from celebrity hairdresser Michael Van Clarke. Designed to help strengthen your hair so that it can keep growing long and healthy, 3 More Inches is a silicone-free 3-step programme for hair.

Hair is typically made up of 97% protein and 3% water. Michael explains that silicone can be one of the most ageing factors for hair as it coats it, making it less able to hold onto the water it contains inside. As the hair dries out though heat styling and environmental factors, it breaks down and becomes less flexible, leading to dry, thin hair and split ends. 3 More Inches feeds back into hair using a cashmere protein, which helps hair cling onto moisture, making the hair fibres stay stronger for longer. As the hair stays healthier, it means that you can grow your hair a lot longer without ending up with those wispy ends we all hate.
The 3 step programme consists of a shampoo, conditioner and a pre wash treatment. The treatment is designed to be used on clean, dry hair and applied liberally from root to tip. Leave on for a few hours (or overnight), and then wash out using the shampoo and conditioner in the morning. You’re advised to use the treatment every other wash, so around 1-2 times per week. Silicone free hair does take a bit of getting used to. Even a lot of the hair treatments and oils on sale contain silicone, so whilst testing these products, I stayed clear of any hair products that contained it. After a few weeks my hair felt extremely soft, if a little flyaway, and I seemed to get less breakage at the ends when brushing.
My favourite of the three products is definitely the pre-wash treatment. It left my hair feeling super soft, manageable and very healthy. It was quite surprising to see how much was absorbed into my hair overnight – despite soaking it in product, I woke up to reasonably dry hair (and a dry pillow!) If you’re looking to grow your hair, then this might just be the range for you!
