I’m not usually a Sweaty Betty but there are some situations which leave me more damp than delighted - first dates, interviews and very warm weather can all leave me a little too 'well-perspired' under the arms, making me more anxious and generally quite worried that I smell. Deodorants do their bit at masking any odour, but I've always felt common antiperspirants a bit lacking for anything more than day-to-day use. In more intense situations, and particularly the over last couple of weeks since its been very sticky weather, I’ve been reaching for something more effective... Out has come the Odaban: 'the antiperspirant guaranteed to work.'

Not the most inconspicuous of names but a definite armpit saver for me, Odaban is an antiperspirant that is guaranteed to work and when used once or twice a week, it prevents sweating completely in the areas where it's applied. The product is available in a 30ml spray bottle and one pump of the clear liquid is used per armpit last thing at night, making sure to wait at least an hour after bathing and 24 hours after shaving. The spray smells strong at first but contains no added fragrance (that can often irritate the underarm skin) and after rinsing off the next morning I'm left completely dry and odour free for about 3 days, before sweat production starts to slowly resume.
The main active ingredient in Odaban is Aluminium Chloride, which is hermetically sealed inside the pump bottle to prevent water contact from the air; this can cause the Aluminium to be broken down. The astringency of the product and the inclusion of Dimethicone in the formula not only prevent the side effect of irritation, that can be caused by other similar antiperspirants, but also ensure that it isn't absorbed by the skin - so it's even safe to be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. The only time I've had any irritation from this product is when I've been slightly overzealous, but it's suitable for even sensitive skin and the spray can be applied to cotton wool and dabbed on the area if you're worried about over application.
As well as the armpits, the spray can also be used by applying with cotton wool to the feet, hands, head and intimate areas. Additionally Odaban also make a targeted hand cream to prevent embarrassing wetness, as well as a foot and footwear powder that (after seven days' use) will leave feet and shoes odour free for up to 6 months. When I bought my bottle for nearly £9 I was a little bit miffed that it was so expensive for just a 30ml bottle, but the spray has lasted me well over a year and has a shelf life of up to 3 years, so I feel like I've definitely been getting my money's worth. If you're looking for a well performing and long-lasting antiperspirant product to prevent you feeling damp and sticky this summer, I would definitely recommend trying Odaban.
Odaban Antiperspirant Spray is available online or from Boots priced £8.99 for 30mls. Check out their website for other products: www.odaban.com
