Keratin is definitely the buzz word of the beauty world at the moment - everything is keratin infused, from shampoos to hairdryers and everything between. Effectively protein that makes up the outer structure of the hair, if you add keratin via a product or styling device it should aid its appearance and help hair to look healthy, shiny and full of life. Tresemme have their very own range of Keratin Smooth hair care and styling products, now adding to the range with the launch of their Keratin Smooth 60 Second Treatment Shot. Easy to use, all you have to do is massage into the hair, concentrating on the most dry and frizzy areas, and leave on for 60 seconds before rinsing off 'to reveal silky smooth hair.' Bringing back memories of the VO5 hot oil treatment shots that filled my bathroom for the best part of the 90's, I was keen to give this a go and see if it really could aid my locks in only 60 seconds.
The cute little tube is easy to break open, even in the shower, providing enough formula for even thick or long hair - this was enough for me to cover my lengths and ends twice over. The formula is light and easy to manipulate around the hair, but didn't provide the creamy depth I anticipated from a treatment that claims to work in a minute. After leaving it on for a little longer than necessary, my hair did feel super smooth in the shower after rinsing it through. It was easy to dry and style, but significantly I did find my hair lacked the lustre and shine I'd been achieving with my normal conditioner. Did this provide me with a shot of intense keratin to really get my hair looking healthy, as claimed? Absolutely not. As far as I'm concerned, this is simply a little tube of their conditioner that's being marketed as an intense problem solver - it simply didn't deliver. The usual Tresemme conditioners retail around £4.99 for a 900ml giant bottle, whereas this comes in at £1.49 for a 15ml tube; if we compare the prices, the shampoo works out at 27p per 100ml, but the 60 second treatment calculates out as a whopping £8.94 for 100ml - there's simply no comparison.
In my opinion, save your pennies and just opt for a better conditioner to start with that will help hair on a daily basis. Even better, just pay a visit to your hairdresser and spend a little more on getting a specialist professional treatment that you'll really be able to see the impact of. Sorry Tresemme, I'm sticking to shots of vodka.
The Keratin Smooth shots launch nationwide late July, priced £1.49 for a 15ml tube.
