For the best part of a decade I was dressed in all manner of floral, frilly and poofy outfits by my mum; admittedly I loved it at the time, but as I headed towards my teenage years and wanted to discover my 'maturity' I started to rebel against anything remotely feminine. My favourite outfit consisted of black jeans and a batman tee (I wonder whatever happened to that little gem...) and I vividly remember shopping for Adidas tracksuit jumpers and Fila trainers like they were the height of fashion. It took me a long time to get over the need to dress in a way that was a silent rebellion against my girlie youth (spending ten years dressed in tutus will do that to a girl,) but gradually more feminine shapes and patterns started to make their way into my wardrobe. Open my closet up today and it's clear I have an obsession with dresses, bold colours and addictively statement patterns, but it took me some time to get on board with florals.
