'Age Perfect' Makeup Designed Specifically For Mature Skin: No Flaking, Caking Or Sitting In Creases!

Ageing really is a privilege. For years we've been conditioned to be embarrassed, ashamed and disgusted by the signs of ageing, but the process is inevitable for us all and something to be celebrated - not feared. Women can be beautiful at any age and makeup should be a tool that's enjoyed to enhance our best features and keep us feeling our best; just because there are a few more candles on the cake doesn't mean our love for lipstick, blusher and creating a radiant base wanes. L'Oreal have long been championing the older woman and aren't afraid of embracing the beauty of grey hair, laughter lines and skin that's not as voluminous as it once was; with Dame Helen Mirren as one of their key ambassadors, they understand that beauty is about feeling your best and the importance of enjoying those little pampering moments every single day.


Adding to their existing Age Perfect skincare line, this Autumn L'Oreal's newest makeup launch has been specifically designed not to cover up your age - but celebrate it. 'Age Perfect' is L’Oreal’s first flattering makeup range that’s been created specifically for mature skin, helping to combat the concerns or problem areas that we experience as we get older (including fine lines, lack of volume and radiance, sparse brows and lashes, dry skin and thinning lips.) With 56 year old Julianne Moore as the face of the range (hoorah for a stunning older woman taking centre stage!) the products really do cater for everything we need from our makeup bag, without compromise. Although designed for those in their 30's, 40's 50's and beyond, the products stand up on their own two feet and are well worth a look no matter your age.


AGE PERFECT ANTI-AGEING RADIANT FOUNDATION (£12.99)
Undoubtedly the hero of the range, this lightweight and velvety soft foundation has been designed to provide medium to full coverage (it’s easy to build and absolutely doesn’t cake) without compromising on luminosity and radiance. Available in 13 shades, it helps to reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles while providing bright and clear skin in and instant; the blurring ingredients help to create a clear complexion, while the formula has been designed not to sit in fine lines and exacerbate their appearance - one of the main issues we can find with foundations as we age. What’s even better is that it won’t dry out the skin (lack of moisture in the skin is a common concern in women over 30, making our bases traditionally look and feel a little dry,) but helps prevent oiliness too.

Pro-Xylene is used in many of the L’Oreal skincare products, but it also features within the Age Perfect Foundation (albeit at a lower concentration) to offer the same benefits and boost the performance of skincare too; it helps to plump up areas of the skin that are losing critical volume, leaving behind a full and radiance base you’ll be really quite chuffed with. A great foundation is hard to come by, but this ticks all my boxes by providing great coverage, a non-cakey finish and longevity that rarely even needs touching up. I'm recommending it to my Mum, Aunt and Nan alongside the Radiance Concealer (£9.99) too.

AGE PERFECT ILLUMINATING GLOW BLUSHER (£7.99)
With four shades specifically designed to flatter more mature skin, this incredibly finely milled and soft blusher also includes soft pearl pigments for a natural looking glow. Like the foundation, it won’t settle into fine lines or cake, making it a great way to add a little flush of colour without overloading the skin. I really love the soft and flattering tones and the texture of the powder, which isn't heavy or overloaded with talc; blusher has traditionally had a reputation for being ageing, but with a lightweight formula like this at your disposal it will be nothing but beautiful. For the price point you really won't get better.


AGE PERFECT LASH MAGNIFYING MASCARA (£11.99)
We associate wide, open eyes and lengthy full lashes with youth and vitality - but often as we age they’re left sparse and prone to breakage. L’Oreal’s new mascara has been specifically created to lift and volumise, but simultaneously help prevent breakage and help restore health to lashes too. When applied daily it helps to strengthen lashes from the root, while giving the look of fuller and thicker lash line with only a few coats. The brush helps to capture lashes and provide a fabulous flutter, even if you do need a few coats to create the desirable finish; it's a great all-round mascara that's perfect for those struggling with their lash line. Suitable for dry and sensitive eyes, it’s available in either black or brown and is definitely one you’ll want to tell all your friends about.

AGE PERFECT BROW MAGNIFYING PENCIL  (£6.99)
Brows are an often neglected area of the face, but they should never be underestimated - especially when a great brow line can take years off your face. This soft but precise pencil helps to effortlessly fill in sparse brows and create a more youthful look, without any tugging or scraping. Although there’s nothing particularly special about this pencil (it’s suitable for everyone and is actually a bit of a bargain,) it’s a great makeup bag addition no matter your age.

AGE PERFECT ROUGE LUMIERE LIPSTICK (£7.99)
Many lipstick formulas can be too drying and leave lips looking parched, with the pigment sitting within those fine creases and making us wonder whether we should be switching up for something a bit glossier. However, with this lipstick formulation L’Oreal have created something truly special that women across the land will be rejoicing over. Featuring a balm core with precious oils to nourish lips and hydrate the surface, the lipstick deposits a beautiful pigment and radiant finish without drying or caking; their ‘blur’ technology helps to conceal fine lines, while the formula has also been proven to smooth lips in the long term too (84% of their testing panel agreed their lips were smoother when it was used for 2 weeks.)

I really struggle with lipsticks lasting and keeping my lips comfortable, but this is a beautiful formula that I'll happily keep reapplying throughout the day. There's also an Anti-Feathering Lip Liner (£5.99) to help prevent bleeding and ensure the colour stays in place, which is a handy tool if your colour has a tendency to bleed into creases around the lips. With twelve great shades to choose from (from nudes and flattering pinks, to deep reds and beautiful browns) there's a perfectly matched colour for every skin tone and desire... Because nobody should ever hand up their lipstick credentials. 


I adore this range and everything it's been designed to do. As we age we do have different needs and our skin does change, but there are few products available that meet those evolving requirements and have been specifically designed to deal with fine lines, lack of volume, sparse hair and dull skin. Each one of the makeup products stands up alone and will only help to create a beautiful finish on skin no matter its age, but for those of us struggling with those first or latter signs of ageing this is exactly what we need for a little confidence boost.
