The beauty industry is constantly innovating. There's always the 'next big thing', on-trend scent or unique formula to keep us on our toes, but with Clayspray the innovation is in their 'back to basics' approach. A range of face masks with targeted formulas, including Pore Refining, Brightening, Toning and Mattifying, Clayspray products are natural, free of preservatives, parabens and perfumes, as well as not being tested on animals. Clays are now widely used to absorb excess oil, dirt and toxins from the skin, while simultaneously exfoliating and improving skin circulation. The Clayspray range of face masks is formulated with 60 - 65% clay, which provides high density formula, for a much higher concentration of beneficial minerals to offer even better results. The clays in Clayspray are emulsified like a cream, providing a smooth and rich texture that easily applies and moves around the skin comfortably.
What's innovative about the Clayspray brand though isn't the formula - it's in the packaging and product delivery. Common clays that come in tubs, jars and bottles immediately come in contact with air once they're opened. As soon as this happens the product starts to oxidize and deteriorate, the water and clay separate, and the formula becomes dry and unusable. Clayspray overcomes this issue by holding the mask in an air-tight container that only pushes the product out when required, avoiding any kind of air contact until the very last minute. When used on the face it really does get to work quickly, absorbing excess oil and drying to leave a very flaky finish that needs a warm wet cloth to remove it. Unlike other clay-based face masks I've used, this only stays on the face for around 5mins before it becomes a little uncomfortable - however, when removed it does leave the complexion looking and feeling refreshed. I didn't notice a huge change in my skin's texture, but it's essential that you apply a good moisturiser after using to prevent skin from drying out too much.
I love the concept of this, I love how much science has been injected into creating a truly innovative and progressive product, but the price for a large can of this is over €41.00. For me a face mask is about a weekly indulgence and ten minutes to myself, with a little skincare benefit thrown in for good measure. I've got sachets of masks that cost £1.99 and I didn't see or feel a significant difference to justify the huge price point of Clayspray. We can only hope that the price point will drop significantly as sales increase, making this a more accessible indulgence and a fun ten minutes in the bathroom. Are you a fan of clay face masks?
