OOTD: Transitional Dressing With The Colour Of The Season & Leopard Print Shoes

Dressing during these transitional months can be equally fun as it is frustrating. Is it going to be a beautifully sunny Autumnal day, or will it start chucking it down and drop ten degrees by the time it's 3pm? My default outfit has to be jeans, a great top and some comfy but stylish shoes - and these items tick all those boxes and more, needing only a trench coat or biker jacket for when it gets chilly. Sometimes it looks freezing cold but a jumper and pair of boots is just too much when you're getting on the tube (those things are like moving ovens, I tell you!) or walking at a pace; sweaty necks and uncomfortably toasty toes are never a good look.

THE RED TOP
It's been named the colour of the season, thanks to the fiery shade dominating the AW17 fashion shows - with brands such as Givenchy, Preen, Chloe, Christopher Kane and MaxMara sending head-to-toe burgundy, wine and cerise looks down the runway. Although not the easiest of colours to wear, red certainly makes a statement and brings out your inner sasspot with very little effort. The key is to keep the lines simple, mix it with either other shades of red or universal textures such as denim, and don't be afraid to embrace a bold accessory. I picked up this oversized top from River Island on impulse because I liked the sleeves (another key trend for AW17) but it's actually become a firm fave, thanks to its ability to style up an outfit while being super comfy. The cut skims my hips and minimises the size of my boobs, while the eye is drawn to the poof of the sleeves rather than my thighs! The pleats are another tick on the trend list too, making this a one-stop shop for those wanting to dress on-trend but running low on the effort required to do so; and the bonus is, it's now on sale.

THE LEOPARD PRINT FLATS
Oh my, I'm so obsessed with leopard print right now. There's something a little crass about the print, but it's also so effortlessly bold and fabulous that I just can't get enough. I've bought three pairs of leopard print shoes in as many weeks, and I can't see the obsession stopping there; who knew the pattern went with everything too! (My fave thing right now is clashing colours and prints like there's no tomorrow.) These cute little flats are from Next and are a bargain at only £28.00 - I love the satin material and the shape that keeps my toes warm (so many of these 'granny style' shoes I've seen make me feel like an old lady, but these are actually modern and totally wearable no matter your age.) Unlike most slingbacks that slip off my feet as soon as I take a step (what's that about?) these actually stay put as long as I don't walk super fast, which is always a bonus. Great with jeans or fabulous with a dress, day or night.

THE CHANGEABLE FURLA BAG
Although I've had this for well over a year, I'm still in love with this Furla Metropolis bag - their iconic piece of arm candy that's become such a fashion staple. (Tip: Bicester Village always have a tonne at a reduced price if you fancy a little splurge.) It may not be huge, but it's sturdy and stylish while being big enough to fit all my essentials. A great day-to-night bag, what's so unique about this version is that the flap pops off and you can attach an alternative style using three small poppers on the base; I've got a glittery flap I love for evening and this is the daytime counterpart. It means you can get two bags in one for less overall investment, plus they're adding new flaps to the collection every season so there's always something new. (Watch this space for the glittery version in another outfit post soon!)

THE ACCESSORIES
You know me, I love an accessory. You may have seen these before, but that doesn't make them any less noteworthy: a great statement Olivia Burton watch, my fave pair of Quay Australia black sunnies, a sprinkling of Pandora jewellery (their new geometric teardrop ring is my fave) and a statement pair of tassel earrings from River Island. (I love these ones so much I've gone back to buy the nude version!) Since I've been engaged I've worn fewer rings, so have definitely started to compensate on my wrists and in my ears... For such a long time I'd wear the same studs week in, week out, but recently I'm all about a dangle or tassel. A simple way to up your fashion game with very little time, money or effort. That's what I'm all about.
