You Need To Change Up Your Textures: Why Embracing New Blush Formats Could Freshen Your Look

SPONSORED FEATURE IN PARTNERSHIP WITH DANIEL SANDLER COSMETICS
I wouldn't dream of attempting to wear the same clothes I styled up during my teenage years now I'm in my thirties; my body shape has changed, my look has evolved and I learned the hard way that string vests and flouro was not a good combination. Although we embrace new styles and change up our wardrobes without a second thought, our makeup bags are often a completely different story; according to Escentual.com, we commonly use products that are up to six years out of date, while its not unusual for us to re-purchase our faves for the best part of a decade without even attempting to find something new. I don't doubt it can be hard to break free of your usual repertoire and try something different, but embracing new formats and textures could freshen your look and turn back the clock (albeit temporarily) with the swish of a brush - especially when it comes to your blusher.

POWDERS CAN BE EXCEPTIONALLY AGEING
As we age our skin isn’t as smooth as it once was, with perhaps a few lines and dry patches added into the mix. Unfortunately a powder blush tends to sit in those lines, so your cheeks could end up looking patchy and uneven; powder absorbs oil and moisture, which can be drying and exacerbate the appearance of fine lines too. If you've noticed your makeup doesn't look at hot as it used to, or you're feeling like you need to try something different, then swap out your usual powder formulas for something a touch lighter.

USING CREAM OR LIQUID CAN ADD FRESHNESS
Creams and tints are a mistake-proof alternative and provide an easy way to build to a visible natural shade; a pop of healthy colour on your cheeks is extremely youthful, not dissimilar to a young child’s flush or a post-workout glow when the blood rushes to the surface. Liquid formulas work beautifully with skin and don't ever sit in fine lines or imperfections, making them a saviour for those of us with less than perfect complexions. Not only are they refreshing to apply, but the result is effortless.

CHOOSE COLOURS THAT ENHANCE NOT CLASH
Makeup artist Daniel Sandler says: "Pale complexions with high-colour should avoid pink tones and instead opt for a soft peach, delicate bronze or nude shade; pale skins who don’t suffer with ruddy cheeks can use either a soft pink or peach. Warmer skin tones look best with a flush of pink as its adds freshness to a complexion that can often look a little sallow; darker skin tones look best with either pink or bronze shades as it compliments their beautiful lip colour." In terms of the best application technique, Sandler suggests: "Always build up the colour slowly - don’t just pop colour on the apple of the cheeks as this can often make a face appear fuller and rounder. Instead apply it to the apple, but then blend it upwards and outwards towards the hairline. Never apply blusher too low or below the cheekbone, as it will drag the face down... Nobody wants that!"

EMBRACE THE LIQUID
Loved by professional Make-up Artists and countless celebrities, Daniel Sandler’s Watercolour liquid blush comes in a spectrum of flattering shades to enhance your complexion with dewy, translucent pigment. The multi-award winning blush is a water-resistant fluid that blends seamlessly to provide cheeks with an ethereal, lit-from-within glow. Daniel says: "My Watercolour range is a completely unique offering, which I created while working on music videos; I had to mix two or three products to get the blusher to stay put under the spotlights. From that point, I just knew that I had to create a single product that would work perfectly. I’m all about long-wear products and I guess the secret to my Watercolour’s success is that not only does it meet consumer demand for a stay-all-day product, but it also helps you look effortlessly healthy and glowing."

The silicone based, oil-free formula is light-weight, 100% blendable and water-resistant; long-lasting and super versatile, each shade helps to achieve the illusion that you quite simply 'glow from within'. Vitamin E and Jojoba combine to enhance application and keep skin hydrated too, making this a true icon of makeup. I adore the ease and efficacy of the water-based formula - as well as the incredible pigment that leaves skin looking amazing after only a few delicate dabs. It's no surprise that it's an industry, beauty editor and blogger favourite, as well as being a multi-award winner and best seller! Available in nine shades, it's an absolute must - whether you're a beauty novice or expert.

This summer there's a new way to try this beauty icon... Daniel Sandler 4 Piece Watercolour Customisable Kit contains four shades that can be used alone or mixed and matched for your perfect tone: Moonglow (a sheer, pearlescent white highlighter,) Sun Glow (a warm golden bronze illuminator,) Luxe (a delicate matte peach) and Pop (a medium toned matte pink.) Daniel says: "Luminous cheeks and glowing skin are timeless, so I’ve created a kit that will help everyone to effortlessly create that coveted healthy sheen perfect for both day and night." The four shades together provide a wardrobe of colour that will keep your complexion looking fresh and fabulous all year round; the endless combinations allow experimentation (something that Daniel actively encourages) and can be used on naked skin or a high coverage look. I was obsessed with the Watercolour liquid blushers already, but this kit has just taken it up another level. They're an easy and effective way to update your look and keep skin looking fresh, no matter your age.

Have you noticed that your powder blushers are starting to look a bit ageing on the skin? Are you tempted to start giving liquid and lighter formulas a go?
