Being Thrifty Has Never Been More On-Trend: How You Can Re-Use Your Burt’s Bees Packaging In 2017

Ten years ago if you prided yourself on a charity shop purchase or spent your weekends up-cycling, you may have been seen as someone with somewhat quirky interests. Fast forward a decade and we're now a generation that whole-heartedly embraces recycling, locally sourced produce, picking up a bargain in Primark or sourcing an old piece of furniture to re-purpose from Gumtree. Being thrifty has never been more on-trend, and sites such as Pinterest and Etsy provide us with endless inspiration and ways of turning someones trash into our own treasure. Not only is getting crafty a fun way to spend an afternoon, but creating something that was born from your own hands makes the end result even more satisfying; calligraphy, card making and knitting have all seen a resurgence in the last few years, as we look to channel our creative streaks in new ways. This Christmas Burt's Bees have made every effort to ensure their festive gifting is re-useable and recyclable; (is any of it made from recycled materials?) with some of their best selling and classic skincare treats being packaged in tins, boxes, cosmetic pouches and zippable containers, you can make use of the vessel well after you've finished the products. If you need some inspiration to help you turn these festive containers into something more exciting, then I've got some ideas to get you in the spirit.

NIGHT LIGHT
The super cute honey jar that comes free with the Treats From The Bees gift set (£7.99) is perfect to re-purpose into a little side table nightlight. Just fill it with a bunch of fairy lights, adding in any trinkets for added interest, and pop on your nightstand for a little something something.

DESK TIDY
Who needs a functional and cold pen holder when you can use something with a touch more character? It's easy to transform the zippable buckets from your Nature Wrapped Up (£29.99) or Nature's Best (£25.00) gift sets into cool desk tidies with tonnes of room. You can even fit your scissors and tape in there!

BATHROOM MINIS
Do you struggle finding a place to store all those handy mini sizes that are perfect for weekends away? Rather than leaving them floating about your bathroom, use the tin from Burt's Bees Nature's Christmas gift set (£14.99) to store them all in one place. If you want your new found storage solution to match your bathroom colour scheme, just cut out a section of wallpaper and glue it around the edges. Ta-da!

SWEET TREATS
I adore the little bauble tins (Burt's Classics Baubles£6.99) that Burt's Bees are offering this year; not only could you re-fill them with Burt's treats year in year out, but you can also use them as little tins of sweets to store in your car or on your desk. If you're being extra good, swap those sweet treats for nuts, seeds or dried fruits and pop it in your bag for a little boost on the go.

COTTON WOOL HOLDER
Want to turn your Treats From The Bees gift set (£7.99) into something useful on your dressing table? Or maybe reuse the Nature's Christmas gift set (£14.99) rather than chucking it away? Pop in those cotton wool balls, hair bobbles or trinkets to keep your bedroom tidy while looking fabulous simultaneously. If you like the style, it's a perfect excuse to buy another too!

GIFT TAGS
Wondering what to do with all the card that's left over from the other gift sets? Using a template (like this one I found on Pinterest,) cut out the printed side of the card and turn the discarded boxes into festive gift tags! Store them away for next Christmas to add a touch of personalisation to your gifts, while saving some valuable pennies in the process.

Are you a fan of re-using packaging that comes with all those Christmas gifts? Do you have a favourite up-cycling technique or top tip for being extra thrifty?

'Giving Comes Naturally Week' is brought to you in association with Burt's Bees.
