Many beauty trends may look great on an Instagram feed, but practically speaking they offer very little actual benefit above and beyond something non-Instagrammable. However, with the latest craze of multi-masking taking over social media and being embraced by celebrities, beauty editors and skincare experts alike, it's time to sit up and take notice. Multi-masking is essentially the use of multiple different face masks at one time, whether that's mixed together or applied to specific areas of the face in order to achieve more targeted results. Although we're often told we're a certain 'skin type', realistically we often have multiple skin types across our faces that all require specific treatment; whether that's blocked or enlarged pores around your nose, congested skin on your chin, blemish prone areas on your forehead, a greasy t-zone or cheeks that lack radiance, it's tricky to target your concern areas with only one product. The multi-masking concept isn't a complicated one and (rather refreshingly) it's not limited to a new product or specific brand: the beauty of it is that you can get involved with what you have lying around your bathroom already. We've all got secret stashes of products we never really use, so this trend provides the perfect excuse to rummage around and discover old favourites - just check they're still safe to be used first! However, if you're in the market for something new then L'Oreal have launched three affordable and incredibly pleasurable face masks that have been developed specifically for multi-masking.
Formulated with a unique mix of Koalin (a highly effective natural clay known to absorb impurities and excess sebum,) Montmorillonite (rich in minerals and recognised for helping to eliminate imperfections) and Ghassoul (a pure clay highly concentrated in minerals renowned to help clarify complexion,) all three masks feature the same base formula to help create a clear and healthy looking complexion. In addition to these clays, each of the masks also includes a unique ingredient to target specific concerns simultaneously: the Purity Clay Mask includes Eucalyptus to work deep into the pores to purify and mattify oily, shiny skin; the Glow Clay Mask with Red Algae exfoliates the skin to illuminate dull, uneven skin tone; the Detox Clay Mask is infused with Charcoal to acts like a magnet and draw out impurities, clarifying congested skin. For £7.99 you'd be hard pushed to find a better product.
The texture of the masks is rich, creamy and easy to apply - with no overwhelming scent or drying nature. Clay masks do have a tendency to leave skin feeling parched and in need of immediate hydration, but these seem to draw out impurities without zapping the skin of moisture. Although you do need to work quite hard to get them off the skin after ten minutes of chillax time, they leave my complexion feeling baby soft and with a definite healthy looking glow. Their strong colours make the multi-masking experience rather like an art class, bringing a much needed injection of fun back into the bathroom. Although they won't turn back the clock or leave you feeling like you've been pummeled and preened during a sixty minute facial, they're a great little treat to keep your skin looking fresh all year long.
